The best party ever

WHAT: Bro has thrown a surprise party for Murdoc in his office and invited everyone.

[Having a boyfriend whose birthday is on Valentine's day is beautiful. It's beautiful and Murdoc definitely doesn't understand why. But to Bro, it's beautiful. Because it means that when he throws Murdoc a surprise party, he can get away with using the most horrendous pink decorations that he possibly can. Of course, they're not all pink. Some are purple! The shade of purple that Murdoc likes the most. There are hearts hanging from the ceiling and there's a giant poster that says 'Happy Birthday Murman' hanging on the wall. In the corner there is a playpen set up for anyone who might have decided to bring their snakes. It was a spur of the moment decision and he isn't quite sure how it's going to work out, but hey. At least the snakes have somewhere to play.

But the most standout thing in the room has gotta be a cake. Bro went all out and made a lifesized cake for the occasion. It's chocolate, and it's as tall as a goddamn person. It... looks special, though. It's kind of lopsided, and the icing's thickness is sporadic. And it looks like he might've ran out of icing towards the bottom, because it's definitely not as delicious as the top.

Overall, it could have turned out worse. It does look like it could fall over at any moment, though.

And who even really knows how it tastes.

That isn't the point though! The point is everything is beautiful and it's time for the best party you ever did see.]

[This is where Murdoc arrives and is completely and totally excited and happy when everyone shouts surprise at him. Wish him happy birthday, give him hugs, whichever. He's bound to love you for it.]

[After the initial surprise is over, it's time to mingle! There is a food table with snacks and drinks, which are completely and totally alcohol free. No spiking it, he will find out and he will track you down.

He's got a stack of records and a record player, so feel free to peruse his music and play something too. Bonus points if it's Eminem.

So mingle! Dance! Bother Murdoc!

[This is where you finally can give him all those beautiful things you bought for Murdoc. So do that, because he's waiting with barely contained excitement.

Also feel free to eat the cake that Bro made, too. He knows it's delicious, you don't have to tell him. If you knock it over, he will cry.]

[Man Bro has been waiting for this for a long time. Well, it got sidetracked by the whole fight thing, but honestly. After they made up, the excitement came back full force. He's had an idea for Murdoc's birthday present for a while now and has been working at it in his spare time. It's finished though, and he's practically vibrating with glee.

However, because of recent happenings... There's a difference to it. One that Murdoc won't notice at first. But he'll definitely point it out after the initial surprise, when he's given it to him.

Until then, Bro is up at the buttcrack of dawn and diving into Murdoc's bed to wake him up.]

Wake uuuup, birthday boy. I think sleeping beauty needs a kiss! Wake up, wake up, wake up!

[Let's all ignore the fact he sounds like a kid at Christmas.]

[Murdoc is pretty damn out of it, despite being an early riser. He doesn't want today to happen because he doesn't want to be old. He's already old. It pains him to know this.

He grumbles as Bro dives into his bed, throwing his arms over his face in protest and peering blearily through them at Bro.]

S'early. [He's so very coherent in the morning. It's beautiful.]

[Murdoc is confused as all hell before he's surprised and happy. He's not used to people yelling things at him and having it be for a good reason, so when he steps back in surprise he almost looks defensive. He drops his guard a little as he realises everyone isn't trying to kill him and he's gonna just smile the smallest smile that was ever smiled in appreciation.]

[Just going to be the most awkward party boy ever and stare at everyong in bewilderment because he has no idea what's going on here. He's nursing a glass of punch as he drifts around the party.]

[Jane is totally partaking in the cake. Skeptically.

Can wizards even make real cake? Anything less than her company's mixes tends to be a disappointment as it is, but cake mixed with magic instead of love?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Well, time to take a bite! Skeptically.]

[Bro must've spelled the room because there's no way Mamma and her assets would have fit otherwise with all the staff members, but hey! She's here, and she's got a gigantic present wrapped in obnoxiously green and silver paper (i.e. Slytherin colours) and an even more obnoxious violet bow.]

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, sveethott~! [Grabs Murdoc into a one-armed hug and lands a big wet kiss on his cheek.] Hy hope hyu vill like eet, dough hyu should vait to open eet in private. [SALACIOUS WINK - hint: she got you boys some toys and 'clothes' to play with in the bedroom. It's a veritable treasure trove of sexual fantasies and cock related dickery.]

[Rhys has not actually being making his presence terribly known. He's there, but he's well aware that very few of the staff members care for him, especially not Bro and Murdoc, and he debated not showing up at all.

Rhys is not stupid. He knows something has been done to him to make him sudden;y unable to stop thinking about Murdoc, the way he looks in his tight pants, the endearing way his lips twist when he's angry, or all his adorable little suspicious glances. He knows, and when he's not around the other man, he can control himself, it's just that the moment he stops reminding himself it's a spell of some sort, he starts thinking as though he's in love with the other man genuinely.

It was during just such a lapse that he bought the History professor's gift. Well, less a lapse, since it's taken a great deal of effort to find exactly what he wanted, and a great deal of money and favors called in to get it. Nevertheless, he's done it, so he might as well give it to the other man and not let it go to waste.

He's rationalizing - his heart is beating faster with the thought of Murdoc accepting his gift, seeing what it is, truly appreciating it the way few other people would. So he waits for a time when he sees the younger man alone for a moment, and approaches quietly, holding a small, cylindrical package, wrapped in silver.]

Donoghue.

[Dirk approaches as she does. In theory, he's probably here for cake, though he looks more interested in Jane's reaction to the cake than he does in getting a piece for himself.]

How is it?

[Dirk's hanging out over by the music, working his way through his Bro's records, occasionally pulling one out of the pile and setting it aside to be played whenever the current one is finished. There's some truly ridiculous variety to his selections- seriously, is that Rachmaninov, where did he even find it, why is he putting it right next to the Eminem?]

[Eventually, Murdoc's drifting will bring him close to Dirk. It's Murdoc's birthday, sure, but he's still just one of Dirk's teachers. Or he was, until recently. He's learned some things since the last time they spoke. Some things about Murdoc and Bro.]

Yo, Professor.

[Now on most days, Rhys is enough to set Murdoc on edge. He only needs to enter the same damn room to have Murdoc giving him sour looks and judging him from afar. It's been worse lately, Rhys has been acting stranger than usual and Murdoc doesn't comprehend it. He's certain it's part of some elaborate scheme, but he feels like he's been acting offputtingly polite and courteous to him. There must be something to it..

So far, Murdoc has been swept up in the hustle and bustle of his birthday to pay much mind to the huge man. He doesn't truly notice him until he's being approached.

He tenses straight away, giving Rhys a suspicious look before arching an eyebrow at the package. He takes a step backward, but feels like dashing away would be horribly rude. Also he wants to know what he got even though it terrifies him.]

I didn't expect to see you here, Rhydderch.

[Murdoc gives her a small smile as she approaches. Believe it or not he's in a pretty good mood today, but he's still no good at big smiles. He takes the present with a curious look and lets out a grunt of surprise as he's both hugged and kissed.]

Ah-! Thank you. I appreciate it. [He smiles a little wider before his cheeks slowly start to go pink.] O-oh. Why's that? [He asks in a hushed voice, too curious to wait.]

[Murdoc is staring confusedly as his own piece when he catches sight of Jane taking a bite. He takes a small step closer and speaks in a hushed voice.]

How is it?

[Fortunately, Bro has brought it up in conversation before with Murdoc, so he's perfectly aware of how much Dirk knows.

...Which only makes him more awkward. He half smiles at him and raises his glass of punch at him.]

Strider. How are you?

Not bad.

[He's been love potion'd into loving Jane, despite having no interest in her whatsoever, no big deal.]

You don't seem like you want to murder Bro too badly for the party.

[She's already swallowed by the time Dirk approaches and speaks, so it's only air she's choking on now. Her heart is pounding ridiculously hard against her ribs as she forces herself past this breathlessness and into speaking.]

I-it's-- it's good! Very. Um. I mean, not as good as mine, but. It's good. Like you.

[Wh...at?]

[She looks up, smiles.]

Oh. Okay, never mind. She was just complimenting Bro. She was probably still getting over swallowing her cake wrong or whatever. That's clearly the reason for that awkward pause, and assuming otherwise is just him overthinking it.]

Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. You okay?

Hoohoohoohoohooyes, I'm fine.

[Doesn't she sound fine? She's totally fine and not thinking about how cute Dirk looks when he gets worried or anything.

She's totally not thinking about how nice Professor Strider's butt is and by extension, how nice Dirk's will probably be when he's an adult. Or how he's been so nice lately and Jake's been busy so maybe she should just give up on that and, you know, aim for what she can actually get, if he's willing and not as gay as she's pinged him for.

None of these are things crossing her mind.]

Sounds like you were trying not to cough. Want me to get you some punch?

[If Dirk knew anyone was contemplating his father's butt and comparing his own to it, he'd probably be pretty embarrassed. Or really embarrassed. Instead, he'll just distract himself by thinking how much missing half the school year has changed things, and wishing he spent more time hanging out with Jane beforehand.]

Not bad. Kind of nice to have something to do today that doesn't involve fifty shades of pink.

[Jane pokes her cake with her fork, just for something to do and look at and keep her mind off of how frustratingly attractive Dirk has apparently grown in the past. Week.]

It is all a bit awkward, isn't it?

[It is amazing how quickly you can realize that someone is, in fact, hot. Dirk is suffering through the same thing.]
