WHAT: Bro has thrown a surprise party for Murdoc in his office and invited everyone.

[Having a boyfriend whose birthday is on Valentine's day is beautiful. It's beautiful and Murdoc definitely doesn't understand why. But to Bro, it's beautiful. Because it means that when he throws Murdoc a surprise party, he can get away with using the most horrendous pink decorations that he possibly can. Of course, they're not all pink. Some are purple! The shade of purple that Murdoc likes the most. There are hearts hanging from the ceiling and there's a giant poster that says 'Happy Birthday Murman' hanging on the wall. In the corner there is a playpen set up for anyone who might have decided to bring their snakes. It was a spur of the moment decision and he isn't quite sure how it's going to work out, but hey. At least the snakes have somewhere to play.

But the most standout thing in the room has gotta be a cake. Bro went all out and made a lifesized cake for the occasion. It's chocolate, and it's as tall as a goddamn person. It... looks special, though. It's kind of lopsided, and the icing's thickness is sporadic. And it looks like he might've ran out of icing towards the bottom, because it's definitely not as delicious as the top.

Overall, it could have turned out worse. It does look like it could fall over at any moment, though.

And who even really knows how it tastes.

That isn't the point though! The point is everything is beautiful and it's time for the best party you ever did see.]

[Murdoc is staring confusedly as his own piece when he catches sight of Jane taking a bite. He takes a small step closer and speaks in a hushed voice.]

How is it?

[She looks up, smiles.]

It's alright. Happy birthday, by the way, Professor!

[He half smiles back at her, looking unconvinced as he narrows his eyes at his fork. He loves his boyfriend, but he's a snob at the best of times. The cake just looks so suspicious.]

I'll take your word for it, then. [A nod.] Thank you. And thank you for comin'. I suppose I've reason to forego assignments for the next week.

Just for those of us who came, right?

[Jane gives him a cheeky grin and takes another bite of the cake.]

You should at least try the cake, sir. I would imagine Professor Strider is waiting to hear how you like it.

Of course. Anyone who doesn't realise a professor's birthday is the perfect opportunity to earn points is a fool and deserves the extra studies.

[He smiles a little wider and takes a small fork full, not eating it just yet.]

That much is true, I suppose. It can't be any worse than my own attempts.

Oh? You've tried baking, Professor? I never would have guessed!

Well, I've attempted it out of curiousity. But I can safely say it is a job best left to house elves and those with genuine interest in it, despite all of the similarities it shares with potions.

It might be a good idea to try mixes, if you ever make another attempt. You have to try pretty hard to screw up a mix!

They make..mixes? [Sheltered pureblood, ahoy!] How exactly does that work?

Basically it's just all the dry ingredients in a box. That's what my muggle side is famous for. Betty Crocker cake mixes!

That sounds.. [Weird.] Fascinatin'. Do they taste the same as hand made cakes?

Some might say they taste better, actually!

Really? I suppose I should look into them. Or, perhaps, I should have Professor Strider look into them.
