there's more to this brave adventure than you believe
WHO: Vriska Serket & YOU
TONE: Pretty casual?
RATING: PG to PG-13
WHEN: Sunday afternoon.
WHERE: The Great Hall
WHAT: Vriska is playing a game of Wizard's Chess by herself. Come and join her!
STATUS: Open and on-going.
So it was a little difficult to play chess by herself, but after a few stalemate rounds she managed to get into the grove of battling herself for victory. She got the idea over winter break when there was literally nothing for her to do but knit scarves for her great aunt and feed Nicholas, her Greenbottle Blue tarantula. It was a very long break for her, unfortunately.
"Knight to E5." Her words were still heavily accented from her native tongue, but at least understandable. Earlier she had weakly justified this game as speech practice (although it really wasn't, but the idea that it was made her feel better about playing it over and over) and she would stick with that reason.

"How often do you win?"

She gives a small shrug and moves to brush away the pawn's remains off the board. "Not many. Is mostly end in a draw, but good practice I suppose." Never mind that she's had to spend a pretty coin on getting new chess pieces every time she made a move which became a little aggravating after a while. "Sometimes I lose on purpose."

She looked up at Rhys again. "Do you play?"

He sidles over, trying to be nonchalant about having no idea who she is. She's really of no concern to him, but he likes to know everyone's name so he knows who's name he'll be bellowing down the hall as he deducts points from their house.
"Good move."

"Thank you. Do you play?" Her accent was obvious, but thankfully her English was still understandable.

An eyebrow quirks at the accent and isn't sure if he can place it, or if he should ask. Lord knows he's tired of being asked if he's Scottish.
"I've been known to. It's a valuable hobby, afterall."

Do you know the charm that causes them to move?

No. Do you?

[One of the knights taps their foot in impatience for Vriska to continue the game, but she ignores it for now.] Do you play?

"Compared to you? House elf is more opponent than you."

"Time in your busy schedule to find funny with me, Zahhak?" To find funny really just meaning to humor, but she didn't care. Her accent was as heavy as ever unfortunately.

"Someone has to teach you how to present yourself properly, Serket," he sniffed, brushing his hair back from his face. "You're certainly not making any effort to do so on your own."
"Go on," he added, gesturing to the board. "I will allow you the opportunity to make the first move."
no subject
"How kind of you." But she spoke with a partial sneer as she made her first move.

He strode over to Vriska and chuckled softly. "Not much fun playin' alone, is it?"
no subject
"It passes time." Better than cursing lowly at homework.
no subject
"Now, my apologies, but you'll have to remind me of your name."
no subject
"Vriska Serket." She gave him a cute little smile to tag along with her answer.
