WHAT: Due to visiting holiday ghosts, some students and staff find themselves living as their future selves. How did some of these kids and teachers turn out? Only time can tell.

Yes it is, don't you see? Even if he's just a child here, killing him now means he won't grow up to become a consulting criminal and make my life rather complicated.

And if he's my Jim then this may be the only chance I get to take him down without unacceptable collateral.

If he's a kid, you run the risk of changing events in a major way. And not just good things like snuffing out his criminal empire before it even begins.

And if he's "your" Jim, who's to say all this gets undone when we all return to when we're supposed to be?

I know saying this kind of thing tends to lose its impact after the, oh, eleventh or twelfth time it's said, but this could well be the maddest idea you've ever had.

I learned a long time ago that turning a blind eye where he's concerned is never the best idea.

Besides, if I do that, then there's definitely no way I can nag you into changing your mind about this.

John, for now you remain rather blissfully unaware of how many times you have been under the crosshairs or a sniper's rifle. Do save your breath. I'm not going to reconsider.

[He stares at Sherlock in incredulity for a moment.] What the f- sniper crosshairs? And you think this is something I didn't need to know about?

[Under his breath.] God damn it, I knew I should have pushed for including a line about being honest about death threats in the vows.

Sherlock, if I knew someone was threatening your life and you didn't know, you'd want to hear about it, right?

Second, that's why there's an "if" in there. For hypotheticals.

If you deigned it necessary to withhold that information I would suspect you did so to not cause undo worry and because you were already handling the situation or the situation had been dealt with.

We have both put each other's lives in danger. The only difference is that I can actually do something about my adversary. Even if you quit that foolish band of yours we're still marked.

Don't act like I'm the unreasonable one. I do all I can to not be the cause of your death.

The Order isn't foolish. Yeah, maybe I can't do a whole lot about the situation on my own, especially if the Ministry keeps heading the way it is. Hell, I might not even be allowed to keep my job at St. Mungo's, and that's if I'm lucky. But that's why it's organized and not a bunch of people running around at cross purposes - together, the Order can do what a single person can't.

Do you see why I think your attempt to take on the Moriarty problem all on your own isn't the greatest idea?
