Greece is the word

WHO: ALL OF THE TEACHERS and their broods
TONE: FUN!?!?
RATING: M for Mature.
WHEN: 4th April to 7th April (ish)
WHERE: Murdoc's home in Greece
WHAT: A teacher meeting held in Greece! What could possibly go wrong?
STATUS: Ongoing.

[Murdoc isn't sure why the responsibility of hosting the meeting fell to him, honestly it already sounds like a terrible idea. He doubts any of them will either come up with sound lesson plans, work cohesively as a team or leave his home any wiser and more mature than they were when they entered. To him, it seems as if a couple of people just like the idea of visiting Greece. However, it's not as if he's going to pass up the chance to show off! And it's not like he doesn't have room to spare.

He's not going to be all that happy to have people there, but he's not a bad host. Everyone has a room and there's food and booze provided. Not to mention the fact that the beach and town are within walking distance, but why on earth would you want to live such a sick crib? Of course, given that he's a pureblood there's absolutely no technology or reception, but there's a pool and a near endless amount of rooms filled with nifty shit!

Regardless, if you aren't a kid you sure as hell aren't here to explore, so quit touching his stuff and get working.]

[After getting over the fact he's in a place he doesn't entirely want to be. Karkat's finally sucked it up and has started wandering around the house, and has found himself in a library-like part of the house. After browsing the titles, he grabs one that seems vaguely romantic and curls up in a chair to unobtrusively read . Occasionally talking out loud about something her's just read.]

Mr. Vantas. [For such a large man, Professor Rhydderch sure can move quietly.]

Ah! Fuck!

[Karkat jumps out of the chair, dropping the book at the sudden voice of the professor behind him, looking up at him startled then lets himself unruffle.]

Oh. It's you.

Indeed. I'd like to speak with you, lad.

[Karkat looks at him suspiciously.]

What, why? I haven't been doing anything wrong and I finished all the homework before we left.

[While, Karkat has been trying to keep himself between Dolores and Rhys since they got here. He's decided to avoid the subject until it's actually brought up.]

Anything else is probably an Ampora-created lie.

[Rhys, however, has no intention of beating around the bush. He has the boy as a student, he's seen how he can talk in circles if given half a chance.]

Hardly. I'd like to know why you keep staring at me, and why you continually interpose yourself between myself and Miss Maryam. [calmly, arching an eyebrow]

[Karkat rubs the back of his neck as the bush is just thoroughly trodden over. He looks away, ignoring the first question.]

I'm not interposing anything. She's my legal guardian, I'm not allowed to just hang around my guardian? I mean just because other teenagers are shit and hate their parents doesn't mean I have to be like that either.

Please, never mistake me for stupid, Mr. Vantas, and I'll do you the same favor.

[Karkat fidgets for a moment. Then shrugs.]

Why would I make that mistake? You're a teacher, it kind of implies the opposite of stupid.

[His comment aside, Karkat does look like he's been scolded.]

I believe you're making that mistake because you feel uncomfortable answering my question, but I'm afraid I must insist. What is your purpose in getting between Dolores and myself?

[Karkat is quiet for a very long time then stuffs his hands into his pockets defensively.]

I could ask you the same question.

[He scowls at the floor, not quite brave enough to scowl at the man himself.]

You could, but it would be based on inaccurate information. I have not been interposing myself between you and your mother at all, nor have I any intention of doing so. Family is of utmost importance, and only an idiot would try to take something from Dolores she obviously values so highly.

[He blinks at him, really not expecting that response.]

Uh... Well...

How am I meant to know that? She doesn't say, well, anything about you two, so any number of things could be happening. And you're just so impossibly tall and so you have to look down when talking it looks like you're going to swoop on me or something, which you better not do to her, by the way. So what if you two are making all these big and grand plans and I have no idea what's going on.

[Not that Karkat has any insecurities about being left out or anything.]

[slowly raises an eyebrow] And have you asked her about any of this?

Well. She only tells me about what I ask about. And nothing more... [He scuffs his shoe] And I don't want to ask her. It's her life, and she can do whatever she wants with it. As if I would stop her from being happy.

She deserves it.

And do you honestly think she'd be happy if she were separated from you, or if you were unhappy?

...I...

[He doesn't reply, because he's really unsure. In Karkat's mind, just because she fawns over him, doesn't mean she isn't thinking about leaving him at any moment. It's not like he doesn't know he can be impossible to deal with a lot of the time. Losing his parents has mad him very insecure about the adults in his life.]

[Rhys looks down at the boy. He doesn't crouch to be on eye level. He doesn't address him kindly. Those would be condescending things to do, and he has no intention of treating the boy like a young child.]

I can tell you, without a doubt, that you are the most important thing in Dolores's life. She will put you first, always, because that is the kind of woman she is. Even if I were inclined to do so, any attempt on my part to draw her away from you or get between the two of you would result in her very swiftly and kindly telling me that things are simply not going to work.

We are not getting married. We are not running away to a foreign country. You mother is a woman I am deeply fond of and admire greatly, but both of us are too old to be so impetuous - we have only just started to see each other in a romantic setting.

So I would appreciate it greatly if you would stop circling her like some sort of guard dog, as amusing as it is at times.

[He scuffs his shoe again, almost feeling stupid for being so annoyed at Rhys' intrusion into his little life, even if it is on the fringe so to speak. However he choses not to show this, as he crosses his arms and huffs loudly.]

Good. And you should go and take it so incredibly slow with her, because I'm not calling you Dad.

[He pauses]

Or Da, I don't give a shit how you're called in Welsh it will never happen.

Last of all, it's fantastic that you find a student amusing, no really that's only the first step to demoralising me and destroying my fragile teen self esteem, thank you so much for that one right there.

[He suddenly feels like the fact that this tall man being Gamzee's uncle is less of a surprise, from calling him an amusing guard dog.]

I would think that a year in my class would give you a little idea of what to expect on that front. [Yeeeeeeah, you might not be comfortable knowing that they've already slept together on multiple occasions, would you, Karkat?] But I certainly have no intention of insisting you call me any form of father. I'm not your father, regardless of my relationship with Dolores.

[Hopefully you're used to company, because Rose easily takes advantage of the extensive library of books at hand.

She's mostly interested in the more fantastical reads, but she's also looking at any books that she may want to take advantage of reading to further her knowledge.]

You don't look too pleased to be here.

[He sags further into the chair as he looks over his book at Rose.]

Why would you think that? I love coming to a country with too much sun, because there's no one else at home to keep and eye one me, in a house full of people that I would have chosen to actually hang out with after having my skin shaved from my body or be dipped in BBQ sauce and thrown to starved honey badgers.

[Sure, he was being slightly over dramatic because he did at least like Dave and Gamzee. And Eridan when he wasn't being a bigger whinge pot than usual. And to be fair, Rose was okay enough even though he barely spoke to her, which was probably part of her appeal.]

[Rose glances at him.]

I'm sure there's a Hufflepuff joke somewhere in there. I don't usually imagine them being fond of BBQ sauce specifically though. [She gently pulls a larger book from the shelf.] But one should look on the brighter side. This is such a wonderful library to take advantage of.

And not everyone here is that bad. I could teach you the art of avoidance if anything. I'm quite skilled in avoiding those I do not care to see.

I don't need to be taught anything. I was good and alone from irritation about two minutes ago. I am fantastic at avoiding things, thank you very much. I could almost be called a master at it.

You don't have to take it so personally. I merely am trying to lighten the mood. [She doesn't seem all that deterred by Karkat's bad mood though.]

I suppose this would be a good place to hide from most. People interested in books. That's a rare sight!
