The best party ever

WHO: Everyone!
TONE: Partyrific
RATING: PG-13 for language
WHEN: February 14th, 8 PM and onward.
WHERE: Bro's office
WHAT: Bro has thrown a surprise party for Murdoc in his office and invited everyone.
STATUS: Ongoing! Feel free to use whichever format you want for tagging.

[Having a boyfriend whose birthday is on Valentine's day is beautiful. It's beautiful and Murdoc definitely doesn't understand why. But to Bro, it's beautiful. Because it means that when he throws Murdoc a surprise party, he can get away with using the most horrendous pink decorations that he possibly can. Of course, they're not all pink. Some are purple! The shade of purple that Murdoc likes the most. There are hearts hanging from the ceiling and there's a giant poster that says 'Happy Birthday Murman' hanging on the wall. In the corner there is a playpen set up for anyone who might have decided to bring their snakes. It was a spur of the moment decision and he isn't quite sure how it's going to work out, but hey. At least the snakes have somewhere to play.

But the most standout thing in the room has gotta be a cake. Bro went all out and made a lifesized cake for the occasion. It's chocolate, and it's as tall as a goddamn person. It... looks special, though. It's kind of lopsided, and the icing's thickness is sporadic. And it looks like he might've ran out of icing towards the bottom, because it's definitely not as delicious as the top.

Overall, it could have turned out worse. It does look like it could fall over at any moment, though.

And who even really knows how it tastes.

That isn't the point though! The point is everything is beautiful and it's time for the best party you ever did see.]

You needn't trouble yourself. How well you age is of absolutely no consequence to me. [Sniff!]

Ah, but my reputation in the wizarding world is stellar. Schools are small, students and staff are bored and word spreads fast. [He gives her a smug look.] I suppose not. [He eyes her arm.] But I've long since retired from auroring. Can't expect every adventure to end in bloodshed, can we?

Oh of course it isn't. But you can still watch even as those little lines around your eyes become deep crevices.

How lucky you got to keep your hands clean. [She's starting to pull away a little. She hates being reminded that she took the less pleasant path, that she's ruined her name to try and help. Hates that her mind so easily reminds herself of it all] I was never an auror you know that. I moved into mysteries and the only reason I ever left was because I wanted my daughters to grow up to a safer world. I paid what ever price necessary and I am still paying.

[Her tone is shorter then before and she looks away, sipping her drink before lifting a hand to rub carefully at the skin around her damaged eye. It can still be so prone to aches, even after a year and more]
wwistful: (tall dark and cranky)

I hardly spend that much time courting with mirrors. I think I'd rather keep my eyes on other things. [His eyes are going to ghost across the crowds to focus on Bro for a moment, then he drops it back with a small smile.]

I did what I had to. My alliance is with the ministry, one always remains safe when their loyalties are with what is widely considered to be right and just.

[He raises an eyebrow at her.] You made your choices, I made mine. You really must stop playin' the part of a martyr, darlin'. There's hardly any need to guilt me at my own birthday party.

8lackwidow: (It was really only you)

[She inhales. Deep, and she holds it. For a moment she almost yells, screams even at him. She though he would at least be able to see what she had done the way she did. She thought some lingering friendship would draw him to her side so she could have someone to trust, to confide in even.

But they're not teenagers anymore. They haven't had each others backs for many years. They grew up, went there ways and now they have teenagers themselves. He's making new loyalties, and to stop and try and cling to the ghosts of a past is a foolish thing. And Charlotte Serket is not a fool in anyway.

So she swallows it. All the anger, all the hurt and frustration. Swallows it down and buries it inside her again. Her smile is polite, though false as she nods]
Of course. Happy Birthday Murdoc. I hope the night goes smoothly, but I probably should be getting back, and finishing lesson plans rather then keeping you in this little corner.

[And on tip toes she goes to brush a kiss over his cheek before turning to go]
