Roleplaying games

WHO: Teachers
TONE: Oh god why
RATING: PG13
WHEN: Wednesday June 27th
WHERE: Teachers common room
WHAT: The Teachers have to roleplay out some situations
STATUS: On going

What's better than roleplaying? Roleplaying to make yourself a better person! Today, the teachers have to play out scenarios to help them think through what to do.

We're doing this sort of link a meme. Each teacher should have a comment and then a teacher will comment back with the scenario that they'll be playing out. The teacher who started the thread will be playing the teacher in each scenario. Use the random number generator to get your scenario and play it out. Each teacher is supposed to play something out with everyone, so try to tag everyone.

1. A student comes to you about a bullying problem.

2. You find two students fighting and have to safely put a stop to it.

3. A student is coming on to you.

4. What do you do when you catch a student cheating.

5. What do you do when the girls go wild with rumor spreading.

6. There's been a magical accident and a student has been hurt.

7. What do you do when you catch a student with drugs with drugs or alcohol.

8. What do you do when a fellow teacher is treating a student unfairly.

9. What do you do when two teachers are fighting.

10. What do you do when a student is being verbally or physically agressive towards you.

Oh, it's entirely for my benefit. [grinning]

If it'll get this roleplay going, then fine.

[Rhys is really...strange. Still, Coulson will indulge him with a few experimental jabs to the air. ]

Oh, marvelous. Though really, your technique could use some work.

[It's funny how fast a man that size can move, but his wand is out of his robe in under a second, and the spell he casts is equally quick, though barely murmured.]

Petrificus totalis~ [If it actually hits Coulson, he'll catch the other man before his stiff body hits the floor. If it doesn't hit, well, he's got a few more binding spells up his sleeve. You never know when you need to tie someone up, after all.]

[His time as an Agent in WAND has taught Coulson a few things, one of them being that you had to be prepared for anything. Honestly though, Rhys very nearly caught him off-guard. It's only his reflexes, honed after many years of being in action, that saved him as he whips his own wand out.]

Protego Duo!

[Coulson's speciality. The Shield charm expands and protects him against the spell just on time.

There's a small frown on his face; exactly what was this man playing at?
]

Professor Rhyderch, I don't think this is part of the scenario.

[Rhys examines the shield with curiosity, nodding his approval at the technique.] To the contrary. That is precisely what I would do if you were an unruly student fighting with another, though I'd be surprised if any of our current crop could produce such a splendid shield. Da iawn.

I thought teachers were not allowed to cast spells on the students.

[snorts] Myrddin, why on earth would you think that? [They ... might not be allowed, actually, but they certainly were permittedto when Rhys was a student, and he keeps up the tradition. Not that he needs to very often - the appearance of a 6'10" older wizard in black robes generally does it for stopping trouble.] Is that how they do it in the States?

Generally, yes.

[He dismisses the charm and pockets his wand, though he is slightly guarded now.]

Teachers are allowed to cast spells on students, if all else fails, but it's a last resort.

No wonder our American students are so soft. [tches] But then I suppose you haven't had the great wars. Your history has plenty of blood, but it's so short.

It's more blood than what's comfortable for all of us. As one great man who fought peacefully for freedom for his country once said: an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,

Ah, yes, little aphorisms. The wonderful thing about those is that they're short, sweet, and so very compact - and yet completely fail to describe or encompass the vast complexity of real life. Justice- [smiles, and really, it's quite an unpleasant expression] must be served. You see? How it just reduces everything to the most basic of terms?

[Coulson meets Rhy's gaze calmly, and his reply is still polite, but he's starting to dislike this man. ]

I don't disagree with the concept of justice, but I don't agree with inflicting bodily harm to a person because of it. I'd rather prisons work on rehabilitation and counselling the inmates, than a simple Dementor's Kiss or a killing curse. Hurting someone for the sake of soothing your own hurt isn't justice; it's revenge.

I get that this opinion is idealistic and sometimes not realistic in certain situations, but every human life has its value; even with Dark Wizards.

[Good instincts, Coulson - Rhys has some admirable qualities, but likeability really isn't one of them.]

Of course every life does - do you think you do a soul any favors by coddling them and telling them it's someone else's fault? And what value do you put on the life of those who have been hurt by the criminal? Or future victims? How well does 'rehabilitation' actually work?

[Rhys could quote numbers at Coulson all day - this is his area of expertise, after all. Arguing justice with a former wizard of the high courts is challenging, at the very least.] And a court does not hurt someone for the sake of soothing their own hurt - it is why victims aren't allowed to determine sentencing. But you are missing my point.

None of his is simple. Yet you would like to reduce it down to a catchy little phrase. You do abstract and complex concepts no justice. [smiles a little at his own joke, though his dark eyes are intent and serious] And if you truly believe things to be that simple, then more fool you.
