WHO: Karkat Vantas and YOU
TONE: light
RATING: PG-13 (for Karkat's mouth mainly)
WHEN: backdated slightly to April 22nd
WHERE: the library
WHAT: Karkat's doing homework and you're invited to bother him
STATUS: ongoing
Eighteen inches for Charms and twelve inches for Care of Magical Creatures. Who the hell set these ridiculous amounts of homework? Oh right, the teachers. If there was one thing about the school that Karkat abhorred more than maybe the lake or how long it took to get to class, it was the homework. Who the hell wrote in inches anyway? He couldn't count on his aunt to give him a good grade in Care just because they were related either which was disappointing but he guessed that was how things went anyway.
He'd been sitting there since after lunch, and he stretched, placing his head on his arms with a huff. This was ridiculous.

Of course he would be here when she was doing research on a topic entirely unrelated to homework (she had already finished hers, naturally).
She remembers her promise to Tavros, of course she does, but just the mere sight of Karkat is enough to almost send her into tears when she remembers all the things that had happened...the things he had said and done...not just to her, but to Tavros as well. (Maybe to Feferi?)
Harley, you're being a wussy girl.
Jade knew that. She hated this weak and emotional part of herself. But it hurt, love hurt so much...especially when the person you liked didn't like you back. No matter how hard Jade tried to convince herself that it was just the same as before when she carried a torch for Karkat but felt he didn't have any feelings towards her, but they at least spoke to each other in a partly friendly manner. At this point they had not spoken in weeks.
Does he miss me?
Why would he? That's a stupid question and Jade feels stupid for thinking it, but she could beat herself up later. Right now she needed to be the brave hero and fulfill her Peter Pan promise to Tavros.
So, after many deep breaths and encouraging words (insults) to psyche herself up, Jade approaches Karkat. She tries to look casual but realizes that she does look slightly vulnerable with how she's holding her books to her chest as if to shield herself from him.]

He wasn't expecting to see Karkat when he stepped out between two tall shelves, and his stopped, his heart aching in his chest for a moment because he knew he wasn't supposed to talk to the Gryffindor, even though they were best friends. He'd fucked things up too much, and now he had to wait while Karkat figured things out, and he looked so- Gamzee just wanted to go over and wrap around the smaller boy the way he always had. But he couldn't.
So he just tried to slip back into the stacks unnoticed. And tripped on the bag he'd dropped when he saw Karkat, stumbled sideways into one of the bookshelves, and sent a whole shelf of treatises on foreign magical flora crashing to the floor.
Oops.

The bottom line was, he had homework to do. And he kind of hoped, somewhere in the back of his mind, that he would find Karkat there. They hadn't seen each other very much since the last time they'd met in the library- which, wasn't all that long ago. But he still wanted to see him again, just to hang out and stuff. It was comforting, it made it easier not to think about everything.
When he rounded the corner and saw him sitting there, he didn't immediately recognize him. He wheeled closer, and his spirits soared when he realized that it was indeed Karkat. But... with different hair! "Karkat?" he asked, a hint of wonder in his voice as he stared at his hair. But then he noticed that Karkat also looked like a complete mess, and his eyes widened. "Are you okay?"
