We're gonna rock out with our--

WHO: Everyone!
TONE: Light
RATING: PG13
WHEN: July 12th - 15th
WHERE: The Music Festival in Aberdeenshire
WHAT: Muuusic!
STATUS: Ongoing!

Ah, the sound of music. It's not always a pretty sound- definitely not. While there are plenty of good bands at the festival, there are also plenty of pretty awful ones trying to make it big. But that's okay, because it's still a good time! Look at all of those stages, look at all that festival food. Four days of music, fun and awesomeness! So walk around, enjoy the music, maybe enter the singing competition they have each day.

But wait! Even if you aren't musically inclined, guess what? Shortly after arriving, you begin to feel the sudden urge to sing, too, even if you might sound like a dying whale. Eventually the urge is going to get so great that you just have to break out into song. Or you might just sing randomly throughout the day, if you give into the feelings. It really depends on your willpower! Either way, you will sing. It looks like all the spells used to make this happen have had unintended side-effects.

That won't stop you from having fun though, right?

[Alec had had to work with his grandmother, had to make every point he could think of, to have her allow him here, this spot of freedom over the summer. He's not sure why he'd tried so hard, it isn't like he's particularly fond of any of his classmates.

But it's better than being home, better than feeling indebted over things he doesn't even understand. Or it had been better, before the song had started to bubble under his skin. His voice isn't terrible, but it's nothing spectacular, the words of this particular song coming out rough, unpracticed (he hasn't sung, even to himself, in a long time, not since the days when he'd spent some time singing hymns. He's not sure he's comfortable with this, but he opens his mouth anyway, letting the words out and hoping no one's close enough to overhear him.]

But just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die. You've gotta get up and try, and try, and try.

Those are relatively deep words. [Rose heard you, but she isn't teasing. She isn't making fun of Alec in anyway. It was mostly a passing thought and comment.]

It seems that people have been breaking into song left and right. [Rose is a stubborn girl, and she's been pushing that feeling off for as long as she can. She refuses to succumb. It might eventually happen, but for now, she still refuses to sing.]

[Alec fixes her with a frown, taking it as teasing even if she doesn't mean it that way. He would mean it that way, and that's most of what matters, isn't it? It's the sort of thing he'd mock people for.]

It's pathetic. [And yes, he includes himself in that assessment, irritated and prickly.

[Your frown does nothing to her. She is immune to frowning. However he takes it, is no concern to her anyways.]

I can't imagine it being that pathetic. It's like school and it's ability to turn itself on its side at any given moment. Perhaps it's not the school but the students and staff. [Or maybe their lives just suck in that regard.]

[He's immune to being convinced things aren't bad, if that's a thing people can be immune from.]

You think it's better for our dull fate to be be self-inflicted?

I wouldn't say that. I just mean that it seems these kind of things tend to follow us.

Either way, one should not take it so badly. It is easier to just accept something like this. It's rather trivial compared to some other things we have had to deal with before.
foepas: (not an optimist)

[personal profile] foepas 2013-07-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure that I would dismiss things simply because they are annoyances, rather than something more dire. At least dire is exciting, gives some kind of spark to it all.

I'd trade being encouraged to burst into song for mortal danger any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

You don't find living one's life as though they were in a musical exciting? [She's teasing. She'd hate her life so much more if that were the case.]

You're a thrill seeker though. I suppose that singing doesn't really make for a very exciting ailment.

I guess you haven't gotten into any fights with anyone yet. It seems like something quite possible in this environment.

[He looked at her, flat.]

If I get into trouble now I won't be allowed on another trip.

Although perhaps that would be better, save me from this sort of thing.

But you are the one who wishes for risk. Would that not be exciting and risky?

Or perhaps you want risk where you would not be punished directly for your actions but a risk in which it would be praised.
foepas: (consideration)

[personal profile] foepas 2013-07-27 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I neither demand nor deserve praise.

[There's just only so much trouble he's willing to get in with family. Particularly his grandmother, whom he's relying on, can't have deciding that he's more trouble than he's worth.]

But it would be such a pity to miss out on this sort of enlightening event.

[His voice is dripping sarcasm.]

Well, this isn't usually what I would consider enlightenment. I suppose it is just because I'm not accustomed to it. It's not generally my taste in music though. I have terribly dull taste in teenager terms.

[She lets out a chuckle.] Surely there is something that you can do here that may liven things up for yourself. That isn't breaking into song like a musical.
foepas: (don't let them know what you think)

[personal profile] foepas 2013-08-02 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
By teenager terms, everyone has terribly dull taste. And by everyone else's standards, teenagers are naive and willful.

[There's no winning, but there's nothing to win, anyway.]

There are certainly better forms of magic.

[However disallowed they might be.]
