[Cyrus--who had turned his face back to his work, angles his head to catch Rhys's eyes. And hello anxiety building up again!]

[He glances at him, somewhat suspiciously.]

Do you? How fascinating! [grins broadly, and leans back in his seat, sipping his tea] How would I do that? You're not some sort of criminal, are you?

[He murmurs quietly.]

I've experienced my fair share of purebloods who frown upon my lineage, how do I know you're not the same?

[Rhys laughs. Not a soft, urbane little chuckle, but a full throated, genuinely highly amused chortle, the smile that went with it disturbingly wide.]

My dear boy! Clearly you don't follow politics. [He leans on one hand, merriment still dancing in his eyes.] Don't you know all blood's the same color when it slips free the veins? Why should anyone care where it comes from before that?

[Cyrus becomes ever so slightly unsettled. More than just slightly actually. More like, if he hadn't practiced dead-pan expressions for the past decade or so, he would be going on with a full-on lip quivering sob at this point.]

I don't see why I should follow something that depresses me. But you really ought to say that to those who view me as being a lesser individual. And I'm afraid I don't know where you're going with that, my apologies.

[Byt Rhys is good at body language, and subtle cues, and he can see something he's saying is bothering the other professor at least a little. Hmmm.]

[Rhys folds his hand over his stomach, the tip of his tongue coming out to lightly touch the points of his canines. They're slightly elongated - not unnaturally so, like a vampire, but the way some people's can get - and the expression is eeriely predatory.]

[He sighs a bit, with the sound of exasperation and begins to stack his papers, considering to return to his quarters in order to finish his work.]

You're seeming awfully protective of me in regards to a situation you know nothing about.

[blinks at him, then chuckles again, shaking his head ... did Cy really not know he was joking? Somehow, that makes everything so much better.] But you seemed so ... upset. Professors have to stick together, you know, against the cold, cruel world.

[He sighs, still somewhat wary. After a strange, muggle hating snow witch breaks you down, you're going to be wary of anyone who speaks to you strangely.]

While I appreciate your concerns, sir. I don't know if I find them to be the most...encouraging of sentiments.

They're not meant to be encouraging. [serenely] And sir? Really? And here I thought we were peers ...

[Cyrus looks up with a slightly quirked eyebrow.]

You do know you're old enough to be my father, correct? I feel referring to you as "sir" is appropriate.

But I'm not your father, at least last I checked. I guess those sorts of things can change at a moment's notice, though. [airily, picking up his tea and sipping again] But as you will. I got used to it in my last position.

You're far too laid back to be teaching. How on earth do you do it?

[Too laid back? Oh, Merlin love you, Cyrus, because Rhys certainly does. This is hilarious.]
