[The Halls, probably near Slytherin dorms.]
[Nick has found himself a clean, empty patch in the hallway and he's making himself up a neat little one man casino. Currently he seems to be engaging in a game of solitaire, he's grumbling to himself as he does but he's actually pretty damn good at it. Honestly, he doesn't really look like he wants to be bothered, unless you happen to look like he could win some money off you. Or anything, really. Cards are more fun if you're winning against someone, afterall.]

[Out of Grounds]
[Nick is a model student. That's why he's out here lighting a smoke with his wand and hoping to God nobody catches him. It's a terrible habit, and he really should stop, but he sure as hell isn't going to appreciate being told. Or caught, for that matter.]

[Library]
[If you happen to be studying here and look like you have more than half a brain in your head, Nick is going to be seating himself in front of you and trying to coaxe you into doing his homework for him.]

There sure isn't. [Only there is and he does it frequently. He might not this time, he's getting a weird sort of vibe from the guy.]

Cards are pretty much the only damn interesting thing here that doesn't involve waving a wand around.

[He rolls his eyes, scowling as he flips his cards.] Seventeen.

I think it's just sad to cheat. [He gives a knowing smirk. He's a pretty good cheat himself but he'll keep it honest. This time anyways.]

I play guitar in my spare time mostly. Cards are something I picked up along the way. I gotta say that a lot of Wizarding games are just plain weird.

[He smiles and pulls in his winnings.] So close!
[He places his bet down and deals out the cards again.]

Oh, yeah. For sure. You know what they say about cheaters? They have no natural talent. [He sounds so sincere about that.]

Guitar, huh? That'll get you places. [A shrug.] Cards are a family thing, guess I'm bringing shame to them right now.

[He scowls, flipping his cards.] Ten and a three.

Here here. [And Marshall totally believes him. Really.]

Ehh, I wouldn't go that far. I just play because I love it. I don't really care about making money off of it or anything.[He chuckles] Everyone has bad days.

[He flips over his own cards.] Huh. Ace and king. Guess I'm just having a lucky one.

Really? Good luck in the real world, then. If you don't do something to make money off it you'll be broke for the rest of your life. [He says, unknowingly.]

[....He narrows his eyes at the cards dealed, giving Marshall a suspicious look.] Yeah, I'll bet.

I'll manage. I've managed on my own for about a year now. [He shrugs] I don't have any debt and my place was willed to me. I just have to pay utilities and living expenses.

[Marshall gives him an innocent look.] Hey, if you don't believe me you can deal the next hand ok?[He slides the cards towards Nick.]

Strong, independent guy, huh? [He lets out a low whistle.] If I get your place you can have my ma.

[He rolls his eyes and takes the cards, redealing them out.] You go first.

Well, I inherited my place and other things when my Mom passed away. I'm actually considered an emancipated minor..not that it matters much since I turn seventeen this year. [He chuckles.] Is your family that bad?

[Marshall grins and draws] Jack and a five.

Nah. I mean, they're great if you love nagging in English AND Italian. I just want my own place, is all.

[He rolls his eyes, flipping out his own cards.] Eight and a Seven...You're a lucky man. I was about to flip my shit.

I guess I don't blame you there. Living alone is nice but it can get boring sometimes.

[He laughs] Shit..a push. Do you want to edraw or break the tie by drawing another card?

Living in an Italian home is like living in a dorm but everyone is your mother or your older sister and leaving a sock around is grounds to start world war three.

Let's do it. Let's draw another card....You first.

That sucks. Is there anyone you could stay with during summer to avoid it?

All right. [He leans in and draws the top card.] Two.

There's a couple of people I like to mooch off, but the cooking brings me back every time.

Heh. [He draws.] ...Five.

I guess I could see that.

Hmm..guess it's not my lucky day after all. [He slides the small pile of coins in Nick's direction.]
Good game though. It's nice to know someone else around here that can play cards other than Exploding Snap.

Italian food. [He presses closed fingers to his mouth, kissing them with an exaggerated 'Mwah' and opening his hand as he does.]

Guess not. No hard feelings, eh? Pleasure playing with you. [Barely contained cackles as he scoops the coins toward himself.] Yeah man. Hit me up anytime.

[Marshall chuckles. He's a bit jealous since Italian food always smelled delicious and he can't exactly eat any of it.]

None at all. Next time I'll even try.

[This is said with a knowing grin and a wink.]

Yeah, I'm sure trying had a lot to do with a chance game. [He gives him a dull look.]

Thanks anyway. [He looks a little suspicious as he gathers his cards.] Guess I should get to class, huh?

I suppose not. Based on the odds alone I was bound to lose at some point or another.

No problem.[Have the most innocent face Marshall can manage.]
Maybe. They are annoyingly good at keeping tabs on us around here.

Guess the odds are in my favour, then.
[He still looks suspicious...but he's not going to argue with money.]

Yeah, you got that right. Guess I'll catch you around, then. [He raises a hand lazily.]
