WHERE: The brew hall in Mechanisburg, Germany
WHAT: Mamma's invited the staff and students of Hogwarts to join in with the New Year's eve party at her old brew hall! Families are welcome, the waitresses adore children!

Festivities were in full swing at Gkika's brew hall - the dancing girls on stage being cheered on by the bar patrons, the beer wenches mingling in the crowd and deliberately thickening their accents for tourists. The music was lively as to be expected, there were drinks and food aplenty. What more could you want?

Gkika herself was donning her 'Mamma' clothes as she circulated the crowd, making sure people were behaving themselves and not hesitating to bodily throw out those who didn't, all with a big grin on her face.

[Murdoc has had a good many drinks before he finds himself gravitating closer to Rhys. He isn't nearby him by any means, he has no reason to approach him, but the fact that he looks so sour is fascinating to a very tipsy Murdoc.

He has his head propped up in his hands as he sits at his own table and doesn't seem to realise he's staring pointedly at Rhys from his nearby location.]

RIGHT?

[It shows just how distracted Rhys is that he doesn't even notice Murdoc's presence, or that he's staring, for sometime. Even though the other man isn't exactly sitting at his table, normally the Potions professor would have been quicker to see him, make some comment.

Tonight, though, he just gives him a cold look and raises his voice just slightly.] Something I can help you with, Donoghue?

[That is only more fascinating to Murdoc. Though he still hasn't quite realised how intense his stare is. He knows he's looking, but he'd expected Rhys to approach much sooner. Strange.

He raises an eyebrow as Rhys speaks and there is something in his words that tickle Murdoc for no apparent reason. He smiles a little as he's addressed, but it eventually spreads into a ridiculous grin at Rhys.]

Evenin'.

[higherthaneverybody]

Are you drunk? [It's a pity he can't appreciate that goofy grin, but he's not in the mood for the petty bickering and bantering he and Murdoc often engage in. It just seems so ridiculous and superficial right now.]

[wwistful]

I don't know, am I? [He seems genuinely surprised at the question. How could he possibly be drunk? He's only been here a few hours! What a notion indeed.]

[higherthaneverybody]

You don't usually smile like that unless you're drunk. [dryly]

[wwistful]

I never said I was smilin'. [He gives Rhys an incredulous look.] You're awfully sour tonight.

[higherthaneverybody]

You have to announce your facial expressions now? [Rhys asks, then shakes his head, face losing animation as he takes a swallow of the beer in front of him, looking away from Murdoc again.]

[wwistful]

You may be misinterpreting them! [He says as if he isn't grinning right now. When Rhys shakes his head, Murdoc slinks out from behind his table and moves closer to Rhys, giving him a curious look.] You didn't answer my question.

[higherthaneverybody]

[Rhys looks up at him impassively as he moves closer.] You didn't ask one.

[wwistful]

I didn't? [He raises an eyebrow, trying to remember back before waving him off.] I'll ask it again, then. Why're you so sour?

[higherthaneverybody]

What, of anything you've ever witnessed me do, makes you believe I'd confide anything about my personal life to you? [flatly, though ... there's a certain age there that's not usually present, a warning]

[wwistful]

Probably the fact that you seem to force the same questions on me all the time. [He raises his hands up as he shrugs and waves them a little, as if to express just how SILLY Rhys is being.] I knew you were a liar but I didn't think you were a hypocrit. Much.

[higherthaneverybody]

I'm not. I never claimed to be open with my own personal details, nor did I ever say I had a right to yours, I simply asked the questions. [growls] Go and pester someone else, lad, I'm not in the mood for your crude attempts at insulting me.

[wwistful]

And now I'm askin' you questions! It isn't even terribly personal, I just want to know why you look as though you're bein' rogered by a giant. [He gives him a surprised look as he growls.] AAH! So it's somethin' personal that's botherin' you. [He sniggles.] You know you could've lied and I'd probably just have accepted it and moved along?

[higherthaneverybody]

And so what have I invited now? You're going to ask the same question over and over while I don't answer you?

[wwistful]

You mean treat you exactly as you treat me? Yes! I think I will indulge in that! Should I start guessin'? Did you get turned down by Miss Maryam? Don't think I haven't seen you weedlin' your way closer to her.

[higherthaneverybody]

[ ... hadn't expected that. Hm.] It has nothing to do with Dolores. Are you her champion, now?

[wwistful]

Good, then everythin' is as it should be. [He brightens a little.] I care for her, as anyone should. She's a good woman, if not unreasonably even tempered at times.

[higherthaneverybody]

As anyone should. [snorts] Yet I imagine you'll object if I do.

[wwistful]

You're perfectly entitled to care for her, from a distance. Anythin' closer might arouse suspicion.

[higherthaneverybody]

Donoghue, if you think I give a flying fuck about your suspicion, you are the most unobservant man I have ever met. [flatly] Nor do you have any say in who I'm 'entitled' to care for or not. You actually have no say in any aspect of my life, no matter how much hot air you like to blow.

[wwistful]

[Murdoc gives him an incredibly bewildered look for a long time. He isn't used to being sworn at by Rhys like that. Still, he's just tipsy enough to proceed like it doesn't bother him.]

You can't say I didn't warn you. [He shrugs lightly.] If you manage to hurt her, and no doubt you will, you can be damn sure I'll have a say.

[higherthaneverybody]

No, you won't. You might have a great deal of rubbish to spew about it, but you still will have no control over the choices she or I make. You're a child, and a particularly bratty one, but that doesn't give you a say in what your elders do. [staring at him darkly, all pretense, for the moment, gone]

[wwistful]

I never said I had control. I said I'd have a say, because I will. I absolutely refuse to stand idly by and watch without lettin' you know how I feel. Personally I don't give a damn how it makes you feel, I only care how Dolores does.

[He scoffs, shrugging.] I don't know why I bother. I knew you'd do it whether I had my say or not and I'm absolutely certain you'll manage to fuck it up in no time.
