[Later, in the 6th year boy's dorm, Herbert will relax a bit, finally away from the crowds that a mishmash of two Houses can engender.] God, it's awful down there.

Herbert, the common room is up. [Eriq said gently, a hint of amusement in his voice as he pulled the curtains closed around his bed] We went down stairs to get here, remember?

Mmm, but yes, I suppose I understand what you mean. There's not much by way of privacy in the common room, is there?

... force of habit. [a little defensively, because he is a bit disoriented in these dungeons] And no, there really isn't. It's like some stupid mixer, as if we haven't all been going to the same school together for years. [pulling his feet up to sit cross legged on the bed, pleased for the closed curtains - it's how he likes to study in his own dorm, after all, as he's a naturally secretive person] I can't stand that sort of thing.

[Chuckles, casting Muffliato on the the drapes to keep anyone from listening in.] It's not that bad, Herbert. Socializing is just a part of life. How do you expect to secure research funds if you can't hold a simple conversation?

I can hold a simple conversation! But none of these people here are going to give me anything, are they? So what's the point? I already have enough friends [one] and it isn't as though I want to [gestures vaguely] 'hook up'. I hardly need help with my homework, so what's the point?

Someone will end up hitting me in the face again, anyway. [leaning back against the headboard, eyes half closing]
