WHERE: Hogwarts Express/Platform 9 3/4 and The Great Hall
WHAT: Gotta get back to Hogwarts! Back to witches and wizards and magical feasts! Students and teachers are finally heading back to school on the Hogwarts express, and with the new school year means sorting for the first years!
STATUS: Ongoing!

[Herbert can be found in some isolated corner, feet pulled up onto the seat and very nearly curled up, his nose in a thick book. He's in a terrible mood, sort of hoping no one will notice he exists for a little while, and he looks out the window in between chapters.]

[But Herbert. Herbert, you have a book. You now have one (1) Baljeet by your side.]

Excuse me, but may I ask what you are reading?

[preanimator]

[Oh. Well, you're one of his Housemates, at least. He holds up the book to the page he's open at, showing some text and a curious, and somewhat gruesome illustration.] Gray's "Anatomy of the Human Body".

[jeet]

Ohhhh... How interesting.

Is this still about that 'defeating death' thing?

[preanimator]

[rolls his eyes] This is basic human anatomy. It's just a review for me. [West tends to read Gray's Anatomy when he's feeling stressed out or put upon, the way other people go back to a favorite novel.]

[jeet]

My apologies for not realizing.

[preanimator]

Well, it's not exactly your area of interest, is it?

[jeet]

Not exactly.

[preanimator]

It's very few peoples'. [A bit smugly.] Are you sitting in here?

[eighttimeshandy]

[Too late, someone noticed you exist. Someone you were probably hoping to avoid. But it's okay, he comes bearing gifts.]

[Well, a gift. A lumpy one. With zombies on the wrapping paper]

[preanimator]

[Herbert glances up, then hastily looks back to his book again, his shoulders hunching in. He's mad at you, Eriq, and hurt, and in a jealous snit fit besides.] Banner's a few compartments down, I believe.

[eighttimeshandy]

[Eyeroll]

You mean your name isn't Bruce? I'm shocked. Shocked and appalled. How dare you mislead me like that, Herbert. How. Dare. You.

[And then he plops the gift down on Herbert's lap]

Open it.

[preanimator]

[The smaller boy makes an annoyed yelping sound as the thing is placed in his lap, his knees drawing up higher, clutching the big book to his narrow chest. He peers down at it, brow furrowing, and pushes his glasses up his nose.]

What is it?

[eighttimeshandy]

A present. [Gosh Herbert, gosh] Open it up and find out.

[When he does open it, he'll find four Mamma Gkika's mugs - filled with brownies.]

[preanimator]

Why are you giving me a present? [suspiciously] I thought you wanted to murder me. [And then you wouldn't talk to me about cool stuff, goes unspoken.] Anyway, isn't Banner the one who's going to take you away from all your suffering?

[But he's neatly pulling the paper open, examining it briefly, then blinking in surprise at the mugs. Luckily he's not familiar with Mama Gkika, or he'd probably throw a fit then and there, he's so annoyed with the Jaegers. But he does like sweet things. Quite a lot. Hmm.]

[eighttimeshandy]

And I told you, I would make it up to you, and I am. [He rolls his eyes, plopping down on the seat next to Herbert with a dramatic sigh, throwing his arms in the air] That was yesterday when you were being stupid! Don't be so short sighted as to think that just because I'm frustrated with you one day, that I'm going to be equally frustrated on the next! At least, not unless you continue to be stupid.

Besides, when you're done with the brownies, then we can smash the mugs and you'll feel better.

[preanimator]

I wasn't being stupid, I had a point. [picking out a brownie, though, and nibbling on it ... okay, those are pretty good] Why would I want to smash the mugs? I mean, other than for the sheer pleasure of destruction you sometimes seem keen to engage in.

What book are you reading? Is it good?

[preanimator]

[ ... oh, one of the first years, probably.] Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body. [disinterestedly, but he will tip it down so Dirk can see the illustration he's currently perusing.]

Do you want to be a doctor?

[preanimator]

Wizards call them healers. But yes, I intend to be both a healer and a physician. [That seems perfectly reasonable to him.]

So would you want to treat both muggles and wizards?

[preanimator]

As far as I can tell, there's very little difference physically. Though that would take further research to ascertain.

[givesyouaboner]

I think the magic part would be the only difference. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for there to be so many muggle-borns, even if magical genes are recessive.

[preanimator]

That's a very simplified view of how genes and alleles function. But I suppose you're a first year, so you can't be expected to know any better. [peering at him briefly] Pureblood?
