WHERE: Any and all of Diagon Alley
WHAT: There is a huge festival the whole week to let students get school supplies. People from all over are flocking to Diagon Alley for the best deals. That means you might meet new people or see old friends!
STATUS: Ongoing!
NOTE: Remember that this event is semi-open! Any HP AU character can have fun here, whether you're in the game or not, so have fun! If you missed the rush for the first log, here's a second chance to have fun, and start some of that September plotting!

Well, since you ask- [Herbert starts, ignoring the sarcasm utterly, and is probably going to babble on happily here about several of what he considers excellent potions texts, as well as pointing out a small, little known philosophical and theoretical treatise on soul magic, demonstrating that he does actually pay attention to what Eriq's interested in, though there'll probably be some convoluted excuse as to why he knows what that book even is, even though it's only peripherally related to his own pursuits.

The boy does actually smile when he talks about books, exposing the little gap between his two front teeth. It's quite odd.]

[That wasn't the reaction he intended, but he hardly has the heart to stop Herbert when he's clearly so thrilled to show off his all his hard-earned knowledge. And also that gap is cute. So he patiently waits for the other boy to finish his ramble, only half-paying attention, even when he mentions the books relevant to his interest because-]

While that's all very nice, Herbert, what I meant was, "Go grab those books for me so that I may add them to my stack to be purchased."

[preanimator]

[Herbert purses his lips and pokes Eriq in the shoulder.] I'm not your butler. But I suppose I could point them out for you, if you like.

[eighttimeshandy]

You know where they are, I have my hands full, AND I'm paying for them. Be a dear and fetch them. Please.

[preanimator]

They're your books, of course you're paying for them. [points out testily, but he will start selecting books off the shelves, taking his own sweet time about it]

[eighttimeshandy]

Yes, and I am lending them to you out of the goodness of my own heart. So the least you can do is get them. All the ones you want.

[He'll be patient. For a bit.]

Can you hurry up? These aren't exactly feathers I'm carrying.

[preanimator]

[gives him an airy look] You're bigger than me.

[Never mind that Eriq's built like a skeleton. And he's not going to get all the ones he wants, just the ones he thinks will be useful to the other boy, as well. Okay, well, maybe one that Eriq wouldn't care about. But he should read it anyway because IT'S REALLY GOOD.]

[eighttimeshandy]

Your arms are thicker.

[More like half a skeleton. Or one that's been really, really stretched out.]

And they're still heavy. You're helping me carry all of these back to Da's car.

[preanimator]

[huffs and rolls his eyes] Fine. And how far is that? You can't exactly park that close to the Alley.

[eighttimeshandy]

I knoooooooow! [If his hands were free, he'd throw them in the air. Instead, Herbert just gets treated to the way his voice gets shrieky and high-pitched when he's annoyed] What is with everyone correcting me today? I didn't just become a wizard YESTERDAY! I've been making this trip for years by myself! I know what I'm doing!

[preanimator]

[snorts, and shoulder bumps the taller boy with rolled eyes, since he's got an armful of books now, too] Yes, yes, you're very grown-up, we can all tell. I was just asking a question, Eriq, honestly, stop pitching a fit.

[eighttimeshandy]

[pout] I just spent all afternoon listening to Ognian Jaeger criticize my taste in books, I kind of don't want to hear it! You will put up with my hissy fit, and you will like it!

[And then he stomps his foot. Because he is an Adult.]

[preanimator]

[blinks, then gives Eriq a look that's half disgust, half sympathy] Why on earth were you talking to one of the Jaegers? They're all morons.

[eighttimeshandy]

He kept following me! [He drops his face into his books with a sob and a whimper] I couldn't get rid of him no matter how hard I tried!

[preanimator]

You have to ignore them. They're like dogs with a bone otherwise, you can't give them any reaction, be boring. [Such easy advice to give, but so hard to follow - Herbert's rarely successful at that tact himself.]

[eighttimeshandy]

[snort] That's not the only way they're like dogs. Ignore them, and they'll jump on top of you until you DO pay attention to them.

[preanimator]

[wrinkles his nose in disgust] Ugh ... yes, I suppose that's true. Though I've been thinking - I don't know why they don't teach us proper enchantment, but I'm sure it can't be hard to research. If an item could be enchanted to produce some kind of force field, then it could be used outside of school and get around all the ridiculous restrictions they impose. Something triggered by an attack ...

[eighttimeshandy]

Honestly, I don't think they're worth that much effort. Maybe we should just start carrying around bones and pull them out whenever they show up.

[preanimator]

I think they're the kind of dogs that prefer live meat. [bitterly] The thrill of the chase, or whatever nonsense.
