[It had been a spur of the moment decision and one he had actually expected to be turned down on. He would have been lying if he said he wasn't afraid, the first few moments after he'd written those few words, that she would say no. But miraculously she had, and he felt relieved. Because now that she knew the truth, well that meant he had to start putting things right. It wasn't even that he had to; he genuinely wanted to. He couldn't before, when she didn't know they were related. That would have defeated the purpose of keeping it a secret. But now that the truth was out? He was going to try as hard as he could to be the father she hadn't actually had before. Somehow. Bro was still getting used to being a father in general.
Dave preferred to consider them brothers, even. So overall he was a shitty parent. But he still wanted to try, because a part of him really hoped that he could salvage his relationship with Rose. Or rather, build one rather than salvage. If she was willing, anyway. And he really liked Rose a lot- in a lot of ways, she reminded him of her mother, though he would never in a million years tell her that. He knew how rocky their relationship was, which was a source of frustration on for him. He just couldn't understand why Rose seemed to hate her so much. It was seriously something he wanted to ask her about one day, but probably not that day. He needed to focus on their relationship first, before he attempted to fix anyone elses.
As it turned out, the only idea he had actually come up with for them to do so far was get coffee together, which was why they were currently standing outside of a Starbucks. He liked Starbucks, it was fucking delicious. Also they had nice bagels. And he totally pegged Rose as a coffee drinker. He just really hoped his pegging was accurate, otherwise that would be really unfortunate and he would feel bad. Aside from coffee though, he really didn't know where they would go. Though he did consider the library. But that seemed so damn unoriginal, and he knew how critical Rose could be. Damn it, he just wanted to impress her by taking her somewhere she would enjoy. He just didn't want to have to ask her what she would enjoy. What he really wanted was just to be able to magically know what she would like- he just couldn't do that, because he barely even knew who.
Christ on a bike, he was such a shitty parent. But he tried not to dwell on that thought, because he really didn't want the day to turn depressing.]
So, you've been here before, right? I mean. Who hasn't been to Starbucks, huh?
