[Astrid took Stormfly, now a tall woman, out of the Owlery and set her up with some makeshift clothes out of bedshits. Really, she looks a mess; Astrid has never been creatively inclined.

Astrid told her to stay in the dorm when she went to class, but Stormfly has a stubborn string to match her human's. She's headstrong and, at the moment, incredibly curious. She'll be poking around, entering classrooms she passes.]

[Hey baby hey baby hey. You know that tiny little shit of an owl that you probably pick on and make fun of because he's tiny and always cold?

Yeah, he's a teenager now, and he's trying to swagger, his no-longer literal feathers all puffed up because now he thinks he's got a chance. Hey there pretty lady.]

[Stormfly has no idea what that means; Astrid does not talk like that. Of course she comes to the Great Hall often. She delivers Astrid's mail every morning.]

My whoman made me wear his clothes. These 'pants' are uncomfortable as hell.

[He blushes when she figures out who he is by his size. I-it's not like he's the only small owl in the owlery /sob]

[He shifts his arms like he would be frustratedly fluttering his wings, his eyebrows knitting together.]

Wow, rude. You must be Stormfly.

[She makes a strange, throaty noise, trying to imitate how the whoman laugh.]

You are smarter than I thought.

[prototypical_dave]

[He looks startled at the noise, and then makes one of his own in an almost questioning tone.]

You are much younger than most of the other owls. I thought you would know less than us. But there are those with my years who would not have known it was me.

[prototypical_dave]

Oh. I talked to your whoman through these journal things that they use to talk to each other. She's interesting.

I think she's just as confused about all the human dangly parts as I am.

[stormfly]

She is a good whoman. Thank you. And yes, there are too many parts. Besides...

[She twists her head to the side, not as far as she usually could.]

This is inconvenient for hunting.

[prototypical_dave]

[Sprite looks down to his feet, which are bare after he argued with Dave over whether he should wear socks and shoes.]

Yeah, and these things aren't good for grabbing shit.

[He zones out a little as a small beetle flies into his peripheral vision, arm reaching out to nab it before he casually pops it into his mouth. Old habits die hard.]

The thumbs are useful, though.

They are! If this is to last, it might make up for what has happened to our talons.

Maybe.

I doubt it'll make up for our wings, though.

[stormfly]

The whomans can fly without wings.

[prototypical_dave]

So Dave tells me. But if it was anywhere near as useful, they wouldn't use us to send their letters.

[stormfly]

I think they just believe they have better thing to do with their time.

And think we have nothing to do beyond deliver their mail.

[prototypical_dave]

Then they make it so that they're right.

[A shudder.]

I'm glad Dave doesn't keep me in a cage over breaks.

They do. Which means they win, I suppose.

I like whomans, but not everything they do... Astrid doesn't cage me, either. She lets me hunt.

[prototypical_dave]

I'm used to them because I don't know anything else.

And the Striders are good whomans. Dave talks to me a lot. That's probably why I started talking so easily now that we're whoman too.

Astrid does not speak to me much. She reads her textbooks out loud over breaks, though. You do sound more like the whomans.
