[Galen follows after him. His wand hand twitches, and it takes all his self control not to send a curse at Kid's back. That would be too easy; he wanted a challenge. He goes to the opposite end of the room and turns to face Kid.]
So are we doing this the proper way by bowing, or can we just get on with it?
no subject
[Which is what he said and Kid took his place at the other end of the room, but his actual bow was so slight it was nearly imperceptible.]
no subject
[Galen's bow is also pretty unnoticeable, and his eyes never left Kid. He then raised his wand as quickly as he could, and murmuring the incantation for the Conjunctivitis Curse.]
no subject
Protego.
[With another flick, he pointed it at Galen.]
Petrificus Totalus.
no subject
Bombarda Maxima!
[Hoping this sufficiently distracts Kid, Galen taps his wand on the tip of his own head, murmuring the incantation for the disillusionment charm. He is not completely invisible of course, but he has a pretty powerful chameleon effect going on, nonetheless.]
no subject
...Still claiming that I'm the coward?
[His eyes scanned the room, searching for any slight sign of movement.]
no subject
He also knows that if he makes any large movements, his cover will probably be blown, and so he is just going to sneak around Kid, giving him a wide berth until he can strike at Kid's backside.
Unfortunately his foot nudged a stray chunk of wood from the desk he exploded, and he cursed himself for not paying more attention, because he should known better, damn it. He instantly stopped, hoping Kid might not have noticed, but not counting on it.]
no subject
Diffindo!
[If he hit him, the cut Galen had probably wouldn't show up through the whatever charm he'd placed on himself, but any blood dropping on the floor would.]
no subject
He gritted his teeth as the spell sliced through the skin on his upper back, creating a cut that was several inches long diagonally down his back. If that was all... he'd received far worse from Vader. He could feel the blood soaking his robes, and trailing down his back.
He looked down at the floor behind him just in time to see a few drops of his own blood hit the ground, and he knew instantly there was no chance of keeping his cover. He whipped around, knowing that by the time he'd thought of an appropriate curse, Kid would have already attacked, so threw up the most powerful shield he could muster with 'Protego'.]
no subject
He knew where he was, so he had to force him to stay there. Pointing his wand low, Kid quickly murmured a 'Stickfast Jinx'. He had to get that damn disillusionment charm off of him somehow or Galen would continue to have the visual advantage.]
no subject
Fumos!
[His wand began producing a cloud of smoke which began filling the room, shrouding him in its depths. He took a hesitant step away from his former spot, hand tensed and ready to block an incoming spell in the event Kid somehow managed to see him; but this also meant he couldn't see Kid himself; the two of them were both fighting blindly now.]
no subject
But he couldn't stay where he was. Deciding he had been in the same spot for too long, Kid immediately dashed away, allowing the smoky depths of the room to cover his tracks. He had a slight advantage here, since he knew the room a little better, but that wasn't going to do much. Time to get on the offensive. He pointed his wand in the last area Galen was in.]
Confrigo.
no subject
Looking through the smoke, he tried to make out any sort of shape that could potentially be Kid. Finally, he saw something, and not really sure if it was Kid or just the smoke shifting, he pointed his wand in that direction and hissed,]
Confundo!
no subject
Before Kid make certain, he was hit. And by time he could wonder what spell had hit him, he was already confunded, seeing stars and looking about the room in confusion.
...Where am I? Everything was smoky, clearly. But he thought he saw a flicking light. Perhaps I should...walk towards it.
And so, a confunded Kid made his way over to the very area that Galen was near.]
no subject
Finally he saw movement, and he was almost surprised to see Kid walking direction towards him. The spell had hit him and now Kid was making everything entirely too easy. Galen almost smiled, but instead he raised his wand.]
Avada-
[No! Quite suddenly he was struck by a mental image of Vader, who had long ago forbidden him to do kill anyone. Not until he was of age. Vader claimed he was too useful to end up in azkaban, and the Trace made it too risky. Not to mention, he was in Hogwarts, battling a prefect. To even think about using it was an extreme lapse in judgment, and he mentally cursed himself. On a spur of the moment decision, he switched to the first spell that came to mind; ironically, the same one Kid had surprised him with earlier.]
Diffindo!
no subject
He was bleeding through his robes...and it was only on one side. On one side. It wasn't balanced at all. OH GOD.]
DISGUSTING.
[It took Kid a moment to realize what had happened; his obsessive nature had kicked in overwhelmed the confunding and he was supposed to be...dueling? Which meant that Galen had time to attack him again. Dammit-!]
...Protego!
no subject
By this point the smoke had started clearing so it was easier to see, and Galen looked around for something that might give him an advantage. The only thing that came to mind were desks, and- suddenly an idea was forming.
He flicked his wand at a desk directly behind Kid.]
Carpe Retractum!
[A beam of orange coloured light shot from his wand and seized the desk. With a pulling motion, the desk came flying toward Kid's back, and Galen himself dove out of the way so that he wouldn't be hit too.]
no subject
The sound of something speeding towards him made Kid duck, but the desk still grazed his head and back, causing him to lurch forward. It hurt, but that was the last attack Galen was going to hit him with, he would see to that. Kid flicked his wand towards the Slytherin.]
SILENCIO.
[Before he waited to see if that spell worked, he shot out another towards Galen.]
Alarte Ascendare.
no subject
He raised his wand to defend himself against Kid's next spell, but no words came out. In a spur of the moment decision, Galen attempted something that he didn't often try, and something he had just begun learning that year; Nonverbal magic. He barely had time to think the spell, and for all the good it did him, he might as well not have even bothered. The shield that flickered out was shattered by Kid's next spell.
Galen flew into the air with a gasp. Gripping his wand, he tried more magic. Aresto Momentum!.
Nothing happened, and Galen fell to the ground with a thud, landing on his back. He scrambled to stand up, and when he did, he pointed his wand at Kid in a flash. As much as nonverbal magic had failed him, he realized it was his only hope. And maybe if he could catch Kid off guard...]
Stupefy!
[He mouthed the spell, knowing full well that no sound would come out. Instead, he thought the words Petrificus Totalus in his head as hard as he could, hoping that for once his nonverbal spell would work.]
no subject
If nothing else, Galen was no slouch. And Kid wasn't entirely certain that it wouldn't lead to a physical fight now that he'd limited Galen's casting abilities. With the thought of creating some distance between them, Kid brought the shield down to direct his wand at Galen.]
Impedimenta.
no subject
Protego!
[Galen's voice came out as no more than a whisper, and the force of his shield charm was barely enough to withstand the brunt of Kid's spell. He felt his feet slide out from under him, and he fell forward, breaking his fall with the hand not holding his wand. He murmured the counter spell aloud, and then reached his wand arm forward.]
Expulso!
[At this point, Galen didn't quite care if his spell was potentially deadly. He was not going to play fair anymore. He wouldn't use an illegal curse, no. But he wasn't going to aim for things around Kid anymore. If his spell caused Kid to explode, then he didn't particularly care. Screw the rules, he was angry.]

She was in such a rush that it barely registered who the dueling students actually were as she sharply swished her wand and dispelled the atmosphere of any offensive spells. But as the static settled and she was able to take in the scene more, she could feel her stomach sink.
Still, Cierra is a teacher. She can't let emotional attachments impede her duties.]
You two. Come with me to Dumbledore's office immediately.
no subject
It was Professor Cierra, his Charms teacher, Head of House, and someone Kid respected greatly. If there was anyone who Kid didn't want to catch him fighting, it was her. Particularly in the state they were both in, each of them with various injuries.
This could very well cost him his position, not to mention her respect. With that thought in mind, the duel seemed very much over.] ...Understood.
no subject
You're interrupting something important, Professor.
no subject
Shut up. We're done here.
no subject
no subject
[Being cut off mid-sentence by Cierra just makes his anger go higher. If that's at all possible.]
And what gives you the right to determine whether our personal matters are of importance? We're not children, we have every right to settle matters that pertain to us; just as you would if you had something to settle with someone.
no subject
I would say that I hate to tell you this, but telling the truth is part of my job: you are a child. Out of the both of you, Kid is the only one that qualifies as an adult here even if he's acted in an irresponsible manner tonight. Settling matters with violence is never the answer, nor is it how I ever settle any of mine.
no subject
[Kid was mildly surprised that Cierra had actually tied Galen up. In a different circumstance, he might have even been amused but the mention of him being an adult and acting irresponsibly stung somewhat. Either way, he needed no such coercion to start over towards Cierra while he avoided meeting her eyes, walking over bits of charred desk in the process and making a face at the destruction they'd done to the room. It really was reprehensible.]
I fully intend on putting this room to rights, Professor.
no subject
I. Am not. A child.
Let me go. Let me go right now, or I swear I'll-
[Not going to finish that sentence, but he really wishes he could.]
no subject
Hush. [Her voice is layered with the magic of Silencio.] You honestly need to learn to control your anger, that is a trait of a proper adult.
--Ah, Kiddo, could you put that out for me please? I'm afraid I'm beginning to get a headache.
no subject
Aguamenti.
no subject
This isn't over, Kid. You can be sure of that.]
