We say hello to say goodbye

For once, the sun is shining brightly as the Hogwarts Express makes its way to it's destination. It's been a long Summer, but now it's time to leave behind all the playing and mischief in order to go forth and be productive students- haha, as if that's going to stop anyone!

The arrival at Hogwarts is cheerful and exciting. There seem to be lots of new people here this year, both students and professors alike. Everyone seems to be excited to start the new year off, and the elves have outdone themselves this year. The start of term feast is delicious and full of all kinds of deliciou food. The sky above the Great Hall features a crystal clear, brightly shining moon and twinkling stars.

As the feast ends, Dumbledore will rise and make his usual announcements- but the difference is, he doesn't send everyone to bed. Instead, he claps his hands and the tables move out of the way and music starts playing. He says that tonight is a very special night! It marks the 1000th year anniversary that Hogwarts has been open! So a party is being thrown in honor of such a special occasion!

Over the course of the night, as if the castle itself wants to get in on things and make it's impact, some people will find that they are more prone to opening up. They won't exactly spill their guts, but if they have feelings they wish to share with someone, then they'll find themselves much less inclined to keep shut on them. This will carry on all night, and well into the next day or two.

So mingle, have fun, and try not to indulge in too many desserts! You do still have class tomorrow.

Bruce. [rolls his eyes] You know I don't like girls, and I doubt anyone who 'caught my eye' would consider themselves lucky.

[greenmoonrising]

Pessimist. [Smiles crookedly and shrugs, content to sit there watching everyone else dance around.]

[preanimator]

Realist. Just because you have no problem attracting people doesn't mean the rest of us are in a similar situation.

[greenmoonrising]

Uh, excuse me for not noticing hordes of screaming fangirls breathing down my neck? Oh wait, I don't have any. [Chuckles.]

[preanimator]

[points to several girls in the room who have given Bruce interested looks tonight] Her, her, and her. And you have Stark, though I still think that was a mistake. I suppose you had a lovely summer in America with him?

[greenmoonrising]

[Blinks at the girls pointed out, taking a moment before answering.] Uh- no, I didn't go to America. I hate flying.

[preanimator]

There are port keys for things like that, you know. A lovely summer here, then. [little eye roll]

[greenmoonrising]

Port keys are honestly just as bad. [Wrinkles nose.] But yes, I had a good relaxing break. What about you, get up to anything exciting over the holidays? [Smiles.]

[preanimator]

I visited my uncle, as usual. [little, secretive smile] That part was excellent. He teaches me all sorts of things they'd never let us study here. I may go apprentice under him when I'm done with school. Unfortunately, I couldn't spent the whole summer with him, so the rest of the time was at home.

[little eye roll - he doesn't talk about his family much, but Bruce probably knows him well enough to know his brother often beats him up and his mother doesn't really understand anything about him] I thought about owling you, but I thought you'd be with Stark all summer, and I didn't want to hear about it.

[ ... probably shouldn't have said that.]

[greenmoonrising]

[... Frowns.] I know you don't like me dating Tony, I wouldn't have gushed or anything.

[preanimator]

Look, I have to see enough of you together over the school year. I feel better about it than I did last year, but it's still uncomfortable. I'd rather it was me, and while I'm aware that was never likely to happen, logic has proven remarkably useless in trying to get over having certain ridiculous hopes dashed. So I didn't want to subject myself to fits of jealousy over the summer on top of it.

[Not looking at Bruce, just staring moodily out at the dancers.] They've put something in the pumpkin juice again, haven't they? I never intended to tell you that.

[greenmoonrising]

... Oh gosh, I'm sorry, Herbert! [Looks genuinely distressed.] I didn't realise you liked Tony too!

[preanimator]

[That actually startles Herbert enough to look at Bruce, eyebrows raised.] Not Stark, you can't possibly be so stupid as to think I fancy him.

[greenmoonrising]

[Blinks and stares.] I thought... you know, with opposites attracting and all...

[preanimator]

God, no, he's insufferable. And not in that 'so insufferable I want to snog him' way - I just can't stand being around him. [wrinkles his nose] It's quite a waste that he's actually intelligent.

[greenmoonrising]

So you... don't fancy Tony? [Confuzzled.]

[preanimator]

[looking at the other boy frankly, wondering how the hell someone as smart as Bruce could be so, so stupid] No. I don't fancy Tony.

[greenmoonrising]

[He IS pretty dumb.] So you fancy..................

[preanimator]

There's two parts of that couple. You and Stark. And I don't fancy Stark. [purses his lips] Honestly, Bruce, sometimes I don't know how you got into Ravenclaw. If it's not Stark, all that leaves is ... ?

[greenmoonrising]

A lot of people wonder how I managed that. [Thinks and then, eyes growing wide he squeaks:] Me!?

[preanimator]

[Herbert rolls his eyes and nods.] But don't worry, I'm not going to do anything about it. I know it was never going to happen anyway, and any of that love nonsense is just a distraction from work.

[He should know. His work suffered considerable after Bruce and Tony got together.]

[greenmoonrising]

[Bruce continues to stare, flabbergasted, before looking suddenly incredibly sad.] I'm sorry, Herbert.

[preanimator]

You don't have to apologize for my own stupidity. [rolls his eyes] It isn't as though you lead me on or anything.

[greenmoonrising]

It's not stupidity, you can't just control these things.

[preanimator]

You should be able to. [and yes, there's a little bit of strain there]
