The clowns are back in town

WHAT: Herbert extended a welcome to Kurloz to join him at the Ravenclaw table whenever for chit-chats. Kurloz takes him up on it.

Look at that clown. All covered in skeleton-like face-paint so early in the morning, and on a Sunday of all days! Unfortunately for the intellectual students of Ravenclaw table, that there clown wouldn't be sitting with his fellow strangers in Slytherin.

Nope, he's on his way to join his buddy Herbert in the pond of blue and bronze!

Cue one lanky teen flopping gracefully next to said Ravenclaw with a broad grin and a wave of his hand.

"You're really very casual about all of this," Herbert ventured, peering up at the other boy a little uncertainly. "Do you, um, do this a lot?"

Kurloz shook his head, examining hands.

The quill stopped moving for a moment as Kurloz hesitated. Then he figured Herbert wasn't the sort to be nasty.

i missed it. been nearly 2 years and all.

Herbert could be extremely nasty, but not about this, and not to someone who'd just been kind to him. He was mostly impressed that Kurloz was apparently having heated make-out sessions when he was just 13 or 14.

"Oh ... so, you- I mean, I'm the first person you did it with in two years?" He wasn't sure what to make of that. Surely it couldn't have been because of a lack of partners? Kurloz seemed to have plenty of friends, he was good looking, friendly, likable. All the things that Herbert wasn't, really. "Why?"

Kurloz shrugged again and scratched his head, thinking on it.

not a lot of fuckers are that into guys what don't talk. makes them mighty uncomfortable.

"But you write," Herbert protested - he truly couldn't see why that would stop anyone. "Anyway, I'm always overhearing people say they wish their girlfriends would shut up more and just- well. Get on with it."

He colored again slightly, and added, shyly, "And you're very good at getting on with it."

Kurloz smiled, almost bashfully, at that and just ducked his head.

thanks bro. but i guess most people be thinking this shit's too weird to get up in their grill.

"Most people are stupid," he said dismissively, and then had to bite back on the urge to say, More for me. It wasn't more for him, Kurloz wasn't his boyfriend, but he still thought the vast majority of the student body were idiots if they thought something like mutism was a good reason to pass up locking lips with the Slytherin.

Again came the shy smile and Kurloz split his second pasty, handing half to Herbert before nibbling on his own part.

Herbert took the pasty - oddly, he felt like he had a bit more of an appetite than he had sitting at the table and looking at Bruce and Tony be disgusting, even if it was a subtle sort of disgusting. He bit into it, chewing thoughtfully, then decided he sort of owed Kurloz, and anyway, was social interaction about things other than corpses the sort of thing that people who knew each other did?

"So do you have someone you fancy?"

Now that required a bit of thought. On having found that Meulin had left Hogwarts altogether Kurloz had been sad but he'd soldiered on. That being said, he hadn't really connected with anyone else on his return and the teens in his village thought he was a complete freak. After Christmas he'd had those strange fond and slightly aroused feelings around that quiet stuttering kid Tavros and the guy Thor thought he was related to, Gamzeeg.

Other than that...

Kurloz shrugged, chomping down on his pasty as the quill scribbled away.

not really. been a bit too busy catching up on some motherfucking schooling to be all socializing and shit like that.

"Where have you been, anyway? I mean, why were you away from the school?" Not that Herbert had noticed - he barely knew who the Ravenclaw 5th years were, let alone the ones from other Houses. "Were you studying at home or something?"

had an accident - had to stay home a while.

Kurloz's face suddenly became closed off and he glanced out the window, willing unpleasant memories to stay down and quietly tucking a knuckle between his teeth just in case.

Herbert frowned, but if Kurloz didn't want to talk about it, well, that was his business. Thinking about it for a moment, he reached out and awkwardly patted the other boy on the shoulder, before sitting back to finish eating his pasty.

Kurloz snapped his gaze to Herbert's face when he felt the pat to his shoulder, expression surprised. He smiled after a moment though, reaching up to squeeze Herbert's hand gratefully before the boy sat back again.

what kinds of sick shit are you planning to get going in your grill today, bro?

"Well, I'm not going back to the dorms," Herbert said darkly. "Probably not tonight, either. I was just going to do homework in the library, and maybe work on my own research in the Potions classroom tonight, as long as I don't get caught out. I'm not sure any of that qualifies as 'sick shit', since I'm not far enough along to show any really promising results yet."

Kurloz smiled and fiddled with his robes, dusting his hands free of crumbs.

"What are you doing?" Herbert asked politely - he's not sure what he imagines the other boy does in his spare time. He's never really thought about it, but he supposes maybe wild things, with that makeup.

Herbert didn't say anything for a few moments, his lips pursed, then he glanced down at his hands resting against his crossed calves.

"We could. Hang out later. I mean, if you want to see what I'm doing, or just ... I don't know. Go over homework or something, if you need help." The offer was made awkwardly, but it was genuine - the Ravenclaw didn;t bother with that sort of thing out of politeness's sake. He felt like he'd just lost a friend in Bruce - Kurloz being as nice as he had been was almost a lifeline to hang on to, to keep from drowning in a sea of bitterness and self-recrimination.

Kurloz blinked with surprise and slowly began to smile almost shyly.

"I wouldn't have offered if I did," Herbert said, gaining a little confidence since Kurloz actually seemed pleased with the offer. He can't imagine why, but hey, maybe he does need some help with his homework? He smiles, then, a little dryly. "You'll find I don't care much to put myself out just to be polite."

makes you a tough cookie to get a good bite out of but doesn't stop a fucker from being seven flavours of motherfucking mouthgasms.

Eyebrow waggle, Herbert just got it.

The smaller boy blinked, then let out a startled caw of laughter, cheeks reddening. "I don't believe it's possibly to have that kind of physical reaction from oral stimulation alone," he said after a moment, sniffing, though it was hard to tell if that was his form of a joke, or if he was really that exactly.

Maybe a little bit of both.

Kurloz winked salaciously and grinned, looking for all the world like one of the puckish faeries that lived to joke around.

"It would be difficult to note down observations until after the experiment was over," Herbert pointed out, taking Kurloz's expression exactly how it looked: as a joke. "But I suppose some adverse conditions must be overcome in the name of real science."
