"If you ever do," Dirk says, voice thick with emotion and threatening tears, "if you ever do that again I will leave and I will never come back, you will never see me again in your life."

As soon as he says it, he can't hold off the tears any more, because it hurts to say, it hurts to even think about. He doesn't want to leave, not in the way he's threatening to. Dave would never forgive him for it. But he doesn't think he can stand a betrayal like that again. He can only barely trust Bro at his word now, he would never be able to do it if he found out that he was lied to a second time.

He pushes his shades up, and rubs away the tears, taking one shuddering breath after another. He isn't even trying to prevent them any more, for all that they're in public. He just keeps himself quiet, breath hitching every few seconds. He rubs the tears away again, this time using his sleeve, and stares at the red marks his nails have left in his palms.

"So. I'll.. I'll hold you to that promise." His voice is quiet. He can't say he trusts Bro, because it's not true and even if he wanted to lie- he's not sure he'll ever want to lie to someone again- no one would believe him.
