Good job, Snow

WHO: Loki and Arthur
TONE: General, Comfort
RATING: G, PG at the most if Loki gets really mad
WHEN: September 18
WHERE: Slytherin 1st years boy's dorm
WHAT: Loki has not reacted well to Snow's introduction post.
STATUS: Ongoing

Loki sat on his bed, the deep emerald curtains pulled to hide him from the rest of his dorm. He did not know if anyone was back, but just in case he did not want anyone to see the hot tears that were running down his cheeks.

How could that man, who had not been there, who knew nothing of the situation, say that it was only a few rowdy teenagers? How could he even try to claim that Loki had hurt Thor, said those horrible things, just because of some kind of teenage compulsion?

But maybe he had...maybe he was just that horrible of a person after all. It would make sense as to why Odin had always favored Thor over him; he was damaged goods after all.

He let out a particularly loud sniff, hoping there was no one around to hear it. He'd never perfected the silencing charm.

There was one person around to hear it, and that was Arthur. He was back early, carefully flexing his fingers after a particularly nasty lash from a plant in Herbology that he'd needed to see the nurse for (thankfully nothing was broken), and as he made his way down towards the sixth year dorms he heard that sniff, and paused.

Normally, despite the number of friends he had in lower years, he didn't make a habit of poking his head into other people's dorm rooms. It's not as if there was anything in them that he hadn't already seen after all.

But his curiosity was piqued and he rested his hand against the door for a moment before pushing it open, and poking his head around it. He was.. a little surprised when he saw who was sitting there, but he didn't think anything of the crying for now. Arthur hadn't seen the Inquisitor's entry to the journals, so he just assumed the kid was homesick or missing his brother.

"Loki? What's the matter?"

"Come on, don't give me that. You're not fine."

On any other occasion such a lie might have worked but when someone has been crying so recently it's not very easy to hide.. and he knows he heard that sniffling from the corridor. After casting a glance back over his shoulder, he moved into the dorm room and pulled the door closed behind him.

"Spill it, Loki. What's wrong?"

Arthur's expression twisted in irritation, and had he not felt some kind of duty towards the boy he would have turned around and left right then. As it was, he let out an annoyed sound and shook his head, crossing the room and sitting on the bed beside him putting one arm around his shoulders.

"I'm calling bullshit on that, kid," he said. "You're not telling me you're sitting in here crying over nothing, and if you don't want to tell me what's up, that's fine, but lying won't work."

He was silent as he read the conversation, keeping one arm around Loki, and after a few minutes he let out a low, agitated sound almost like a snarl.

"Bastard," he growled, snapping the journal closed. As much as he almost envied Snow's ability to twist a conversation like that, to see such tactics used on a child made him sick to his stomach.

"I believe you. Now listen to me. Snow's not going to punish anyone - no one believes this bullshit 'rowdy teenagers' rubbish. The professors know the truth and they're not going to let him near any of us. Understand?"

"Dumbledore won't let that happen." Arthur knew what the Ministry thought of Dumbledore, mostly through snippets of conversation overheard from his father, but he wasn't having any of it.

When Loki curled up, Arthur just tightened his arm around him and squeezed his shoulder.

"Just keep out of Snow's way. Don't talk to him, and if he talks to you just tell him the absolute minimum that you can and end it as quickly as possible."

"You were telling the truth and got talked down to by someone who should be taking what you're saying into account. I would have been frustrated too."

He hesitated, then put his free arm around the smaller boy, giving him a brief hug.

"But that doesn't mean you should stop being honest when you know damn well that you're right."

"That's probably not a bad idea. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for when I think you're running your mouth off."

Loki probably won't appreciate it, but he'll be speaking to Thor, too.

"Hmn.. I did tell him I'd keep an eye on you, but alright, I shan't tell him that you were crying."

And he wouldn't.. but that didn't mean he couldn't keep him informed regardless.
