Preparing for try outs.

 WHO: Tony, but open to all.
TONE: Easy going.
RATING: PG-13 for possible language
WHEN: August 9th
WHERE: Hogwarts grounds. Roughly where the first years are taught how to ride a broom.
WHAT: Tony's getting ready to be a captain before general try out for quidditch start.
STATUS: Ongoing! 


With Tony being the Captain of Ravenclaw's team this year. Tony decided to take a break from homework and general geniusing, to sit out in the autumn sun while doing some general broom maintenance out on the grass. 

He's absorbed in his work; readjusting twigs, shifting his foot stands and getting on and testing how it moves a few feet off the air.

He's mumbling to himself during the entire process.

"What I wouldn't give for an iPod to work here sometimes"

Is one of the few things he can be heard mumbling aside from extensive thoughts on how the broom should hand'e when he does this thing or that thing to it.

One thing is for sure, he seems to be quite in his element playing with the broom.

"The legalities for the situation really aren't the issue here."

He got on the broom properly then shifted till he got comfortable.

"Right, I'm going to start with basic banking, at about a twenty degree angle. And shut up, you love me."

Testing phases were something Tony always enjoyed. And one of the few times you could see him being actually serious. He started his testing and banked from left to right, at his described angle.

"Not bad, responsive. Still firm ride wise, no jerking so far."

Bruce just watched with detached interest, deliberately keeping himself mentally distanced from the knowledge that Tony's riding an untested modified broom, his wand at the ready in case the self-proclaimed genius fell from the air.

"Now to go to fi- Wait"

Tony sits up on his broom, then pats his pockets. Looking over at Bruce and his other things, Tony banks over and slips over to Bruce. And reaching his arm out when he's close enough.

"Help a guy out here. In the kit box, there's some goggles. Pass them over?"

[greenmoonrising]

"What would you do without me?" he sighed, rifling through the kit box before finding the aforementioned goggles. Once he had them, he deftly tossed them into Tony's hand.

Tony catches the goggles easily then puts them on.

"I'd be living a deep and meaningful life in which I have to get my own things. And we all know I suit shallow and meaningless so much more."

Tony grins, his goggles making him look like he's about to go sky diving. He pulls away from Bruce.

"Right! Taking it up to five feet so I can start the speed test. Bruce, have you got a watch? I want to time my watch against yours."

Peter takes it, being gentle with how he handles it, knowing how annoying it can be when someone manhandles his work. He chews on his lip, thinking as his eyes scan over it, it looks great but why had he moved the logo to the footstand?

"Moving your logo to the foot stand is going to offset your balance slightly, it might not seem like it but with the momentum you're going to have at the speeds this thing will go, it will probably affect how you make turns. And it possibly could slow you down with more surface area," he pauses, brown eyes flickering to him for a second. "your could save yourself the trouble by moving it to the back of both parts of your foot stand," he points a finger to where he is talking about as he speaks, "it would even it out without adding surface area to slow you down. As well as being extra flashy..."

It only takes him a second to start looking awkward as he hands it back to Tony. "...Sorry, just a suggestion..."

Tony watches Peter as he gives his thoughts. Then looks at the broom for a moment.

"Good eye, Parker. There's hope for you yet."

Tony makes no move to take the broom as it's handed to him. And instead grabs an apple out of his kit box.

"You planning on trying out for the team?"

He bites into the apple, watching him casually?

[speterman]

"Thanks."

Peter hesitates, unsure of how to take that reaction. He shifts uncomfortably under the gaze and his eyes drop down to the broom.

"Yeah, well, I was thinking about it, might be good at it. Or really bad... either or... you know... "

"Many teachers do seem as if they are rather stressed."

He stares at Tony's hands as they work cleaning his broom.

"You are on the quidditch team for Ravenclaw?"

"Come on, Stark. Everyone knows El Dorado is a myth."

He laughs and looks away, and a small frown twitches over his face.

"Say, Tony... He is alright, isn't he? Bruce, I mean. Last week he looked like someone had been torturing him."

[arrogantalloy]

"Which really should tell you how easy it would be for me to get him to do it."

As the topic moves towards Bruce's appearance of health, Tony grabs a rag and starts to wipe excess bristle oil of the back of his broom, then gives a shrug.

"He spent most of the summer with me. So if that's some veiled way of saying I'm a horrible friend, then I think I need to pretend like I care."

[arrogantalloy]

"They're teaching at a school with magic and hormones flying through the air. Who wouldn't be stressed?"

Tony gave a slight shrug.

"There is no team, Tryouts haven't even started yet."

[rule_britannia]

"I wasn't suggesting anything of the kind."

Though, how the other boy immediately jumps to such a conclusion does draw a slightly puzzled expression.

"Bruce has always seemed a fairly decent judge of character to me, and I don't think he's gone wrong with you. I'm only expressing concern."

[arrogantalloy]

"You know a good way to find out. Be giving it a go. One of those keep moving forward things or something. You look like you might be good."

Tony takes another bite out of the apple.

[arrogantalloy]

"Well there's nothing to be concerned about, he's fine. He just runs himself ragged sometimes, he's just not as good at staying up all hours like me. It's nothing."

Tony lifts the broom to make a show of inspecting the broom. Pleased that Arthur looked puzzled by his conclusions.

Well, my best friend is a Gryffindor. [She smirks.] So I don't know...

"Oh, so are you preparing your broom for tryouts then?"

[speterman]

"You think so?" He seems to perk up over this possible praise. "There's no real harm in trying, right?" He offers an optimistic smile as he finally decides to just set the broom down gently in front of Tony.

"It is certainly a lot different from parkour, that's for sure."

[arrogantalloy]

"And if there is any harm, then its worth it when you get it how you want it."

Tony looks at Peter with a quizzical expression.

"Parkour?"

While Tony is something of a genius when it comes to spells, engineering, design, and public speaking. Some muggle things still completely pass him by. Mostly things that have nothing to do with what he's interested in/good at.

[speterman]

He raises an eyebrow at the question.

"Freerunning?" He offers as if that would clear things up. "Basically, I hop about on things... Creatively." He makes a strange face shrugging his shoulders before adding, "it's all about physicals. It's hard to explain, it's kind of a thing you have to see. Erm, otherwise it sounds a bit daft."

[arrogantalloy]

"So. What you're saying is you just act like a frog?"

Tony gives him an incredulous look before picking up his broom and moving it to one side.

"Exhausting and uninteresting maybe. But really, I've seen stupider hobbies."

[speterman]

"More or less, I guess. It builds good strength though, and puzzle solving skills." He laughs it off a little before pointing at one of the windows on the building, closing one eye as he did, as if that would make his vision perfect. "That second story window for example, I could get up there in under two minutes, probably a minute twenty. Wanna see?"

He raises a brown eyebrow at him before adding, "Without magic."

Tony looked up at the second story, doing quiet calculations in his head, before turning to look at Peter. Then glanced between the two.

"Okay, Chocolate frog says you can't do it in two minutes."

Natasha flew around for about ten minutes before going back down to the ground.

"That was too much fun."

[speterman]

"You can start the timer now." His lips tug up into a smile as he brushes a hand through his cookie monster hair. With a full out grin he stands up. Then in no time he bolts towards the building with speed most people probably wouldn't have pegged the not so athletic looking boy to have. When he's close enough to the wall he all but leaps up using his feet to push up and over to dangle from one of the first story windows and pull himself up with practiced skill, and without even hesitating, there's some window climbing that somewhat looks like spider climbing, a tad bit of wall climbing that doesn't seem to be hard to him at all and then, yep, Tony, that sure is Peter perched precariously in the second floor window and that certainly wasn't two minutes.

The skinny awkward boy is surprisingly good at his hobby and also grinning at Tony and waving. He might have rushed a bit more than he normally would, but who cares, this was Tony Stark he was impressing.
