School Year Starting Logs: Train + Feast/Sorting!

WHEN: The day of September 2nd for the train, and at night for the feast!
WHERE: Hogwarts Express/Platform 9 3/4 and The Great Hall
WHAT: Gotta get back to Hogwarts! Back to witches and wizards and magical feasts! Students and teachers are finally heading back to school on the Hogwarts express, and with the new school year means sorting for the first years!
STATUS: Ongoing!
NOTE: There is a thread for the Train back to Hogwarts, and the Feast, with a subthread for the Sorting! First years can comment to be sorted, and everyone else can greet their new house mates/students!

Oh, you're not eavesdropping. It's kinda hard to miss it..and thanks! [He nods back/] Yeah, that's me. [He gestures to one of the empty seats.] You can sit down if you want..

[She relaxes and takes one of the offered seats, looking around the compartment and at his empty guitar case]

How long have you been playing?

[Such an innocent but loaded question! Since "Over a century" isn't really an option he opts for a half truth.]

Since I was pretty small..music is one of my favorite things. How about you? Do you play any instruments?

[She gives a small shake of her head.] No instruments but I use to sing in my old school's choir. [She gives a sheepish shrug] It's been years though. [She does love music, however, of all kinds]

Voice is just as much of an instrument as anything else. You should get back into it! I think there's a music club at Hogwarts.
[He smiles]</small? So what kinds of music do you like to listen or sing to?

[She couldn't help but giggle a little] You know everytime someone asks me that I'm never sure how to answer. I think I can appurrciate any kind of music, no matter what the genre as long as it has has a lot of passion put into it.

[Still, she bit her lip and thought] But if I had to choose I guess...I really like swing jazz! Or really, any kind of jazz. What about you?

That's good though! Being able to appreciate all kinds of things shows a pretty keen mind.
[He's a bit surprised at her answer but he thinks its awesome someone as young as she is would be into that.] Jazz is cool. Some of those guys riffs are pretty amazing. I'm more of a rock and roll or alternative kinda guy myself.

[That actually brings up something Nepeta has always sorta wondered]

You know, I'm sure I've purrobably heard it befur, but what exactly is Alternative? Like...what would constitute it?

[He paused thoughtfully wondering how to put it into words exactly.]
Well...I think it's kind of an outdated term now really. It was used a lot in the 90's for bands that didn't really sound like anything else that was out at the time? That's what it always seemed like it would mean to me anyways.
When I think of alternative I think of stuff like Nirvana or Mudhoney. Personally I don't think there's really been many true alternative bands after 2001.

I see! I've heard of Nirvana but not Mudhoney. Do you know any of their songs? [She nodded at his guitar]

They're a pretty old grunge band. They came out before Nirvana..
