WHEN: The day of September 2nd for the train, and at night for the feast!
WHERE: Hogwarts Express/Platform 9 3/4 and The Great Hall
WHAT: Gotta get back to Hogwarts! Back to witches and wizards and magical feasts! Students and teachers are finally heading back to school on the Hogwarts express, and with the new school year means sorting for the first years!
STATUS: Ongoing!
NOTE: There is a thread for the Train back to Hogwarts, and the Feast, with a subthread for the Sorting! First years can comment to be sorted, and everyone else can greet their new house mates/students!

[After a long while, the Ss finally have arrive.]

Strider, Dirk!

_{[OH MY GOD IT'S TIME. He bites the inside of his cheek, then glances at the tables his friends got sorted to. Looks to the Gryffindor table, trying to find Dave in the crowd. Gives his uncle another glance at the staff table. Are they watching? They better be.

And finally. He steps forward and sits in the chair.]}

[The hat immediately begins.]

Strider! Another one. Oh yes... I remember very well. After all, it wasn't long ago that I sorted one just like you...

Ah, but I can already see so many differences...

_{[Dave is way cooler, for one.

But he doesn't dare say that out loud. What is he even supposed to say? Can the hat read his mind? This is just a tad more stressful than it even should be.]}

The differences aren't really that important.

A contradicting statement. And a wrong one. The differences change everything. Oh, but this is familiar to me. Very familiar...

And difficult. Oh yes. Just like one other that was very similar to you...

[The hat trails off, sounding vaguely... amused?]

_{[He's quiet for a moment, trying to analyse what the hat is saying, but then it occurs to him he should save that for later. What's more important is expressing his own desires.]}

I want to be in Gryffindor.

[It's a whisper, meant only for Dirk. It sounds just as amused as before.]

Are you sure? Ravenclaw will help you, nurture that intelligence and not let it go to waste. And then there's Hufflepuff... Oh, you're very loyal to your friends. And hard working. You would make a decent 'puff, if I do say so myself.

But as I said, I am very familiar with this argument, despite the fact it's been slightly different each time.

I just wonder... Hm... Yes, perhaps this time could be different.

[Trailing off again, sounding thoughtful.]

But you could argue that for any house. Based on what I've read, I could make a decent Slytherin as well. But wouldn't I truly excel in a house I want to be in? And that's Gryffindor. That's where I want to be.

I disagree. You would do well in a different house. It would test you in a lot of different ways.

Ah, but you're truly set in your ways...

Well, before I make my decision, have some advice from the one who knows you best.

Following in the shadows of others will never lead you to true happiness. Breaking away and finding your true self is the real test.

_{[That's definitely some food for thought, but Dirk decides he's not going to worry about that too much at the moment. He's eleven and has a one track mind right now. He got into Gryffindor, just like his family.

_{[It's just by luck that's he's able to catch it. THAT ALMOST HIT HIS HEAD, YOU. but hey, now he has a snack while going to find a place to sit.]}

[Despite the fact that Bro would have been proud of him no matter what, the fact that Dirk made it to Gryffindor practically makes him explode.]

FUCK YEAH, I KNEW IT! THAT'S MY BOY!

[He may or may not have been the loudest voice in the entire great hall. Also he fistpumped so hard that it created a sonic boom and killed God.]

And... Goddamn it now that the outburst of pride has subsided and god has been taken care of, he finds himself feeling. Really. fucking. emotional.

Fuck him he's getting wibbly at the staff table.

But don't worry; Dirk hasn't noticed. He's busy getting settled at the table. Once he's sat down, he does manage a glance back to Bro, but he misses that completely.]}
