WHEN: The day of September 2nd for the train, and at night for the feast!
WHERE: Hogwarts Express/Platform 9 3/4 and The Great Hall
WHAT: Gotta get back to Hogwarts! Back to witches and wizards and magical feasts! Students and teachers are finally heading back to school on the Hogwarts express, and with the new school year means sorting for the first years!
STATUS: Ongoing!
NOTE: There is a thread for the Train back to Hogwarts, and the Feast, with a subthread for the Sorting! First years can comment to be sorted, and everyone else can greet their new house mates/students!

[Bro's at the staff table. It's not a position he's used to being at. He never really had the opportunity back when he first got hired, because he had to go home shortly after to take care of Dirk. He's pretty excited.

But at the moment he isn't even thinking about that. At all. His eyes are focused on Dirk, standing amongst the first years waiting to be sorted. Dirk hasn't even been sorted yet, and he can't even contain the pride he feels simply for Dirk being here. It feels like it's been such a long and difficult road. It feels like so long ago that he found out Dirk was going to Hogwarts, and... God, he's just so damn happy that it's finally a thing. Despite all of the shit they've gone through, he feels like maybe things could finally be looking up now that it's here. Of course there's a part of him that knows that none of the battles are over, but.

At least there's the calm before the real storm.

But despite how happy he feels at the moment, he can tell that Dirk is nervous. He knew he was nervous before they even left for school. But now... he looks a lot more nervous. It reminds him exactly how he was when he was waiting to be sorted. It takes him a few minutes, but he gets an idea. Being a ventriloquist, he's pretty damn good at throwing his voice. The hall is loud and Dirk is far away, but he's pretty sure that with a little bit of nonverbal magic, he can get Dirk to hear him.

He takes a deep breath, does a little magic, and when he whispers, it's like his voice is right next to Dirk's ear.]

It'll be okay. No matter what, I've never been more proud than I am right now.

[When he's finished, he slowly slides his shades off and gives Dirk a smile. He hopes that even from the distance, he'll be able to see at least a small glimmer of the pride shining in them.]

<sub>[Just saying he's a little nervous doesn't really cut it. He knows he can't even do this wrong, but he feels all this pressure on him that isn't even there. He just wants to do this right. Doing this right will be ending up in Gryffindor. Because that's what his uncle was. That's what Dave is. He's been focused on following this and being like his family that he isn't sure what he feels about the idea of possibly ending up in one of the three other houses.

It's a bit nerve-wracking because it's like a test that he has no way to prepare for. The most he can do is ask for the Hat to sort him into this house. But that's when it's his turn. And he's an S and that's so far away. Why wasn't he born Dirk H. Aardvark? It'd be so much easier.

But then he hears his uncle's words. It's one of those moments where he forgot that magic is even a thing, so he's looking around him for Bro before he even thinks to look at the staff table. He's too nervous to even return that smile with little more than a lip twitch.

In the very least, he visibly relaxes some.]</sub>

<sub>[OH MY GOD IT'S TIME. He bites the inside of his cheek, then glances at the tables his friends got sorted to. Looks to the Gryffindor table, trying to find Dave in the crowd. Gives his uncle another glance at the staff table. Are they watching? They better be.

And finally. He steps forward and sits in the chair.]</sub>

The Professor in charge of the sorting looks at her list before calling out,]

[Oh man. Jake is pretty sure he's gonna have to launder his robes like. Immediately following this ceremony because he's like a sweating nervous mess. What if he doesn't know anything about himself and he gets sorted into Slytherin? Aren't the bad witches and wizards always in Slytherin? He's not a bad guy!! What if something goes wrong and they find out they done goofed and he's not a wizard at all? Oh man.]

[Basically Jake looks sort of like he might pass out before he gets sorted. Whoops.]

[Oh, this is rather scary. She couldn't help but tremble slightly as everyone started being sorted. What house was she going to end up in? Would it be a good one? And everyone was looking at her. She felt like melting into the floor beneath her, unused to all the attention.]

[Hotaru had known for most of her life that she would one day end up here, the hallowed halls of Hogwarts. Magic was in her blood, and there had been little doubt in that since the accident that took her mother's life. Had she been born a squib she would be dead by now, magic needed in helping her mangled, twisted body move and function. Her father was a clever man yes, but sometimes Hotaru couldn't help but wish she had been a squib. A wish she always squashed with a vengeance whenever it formed in her mind. Her father had meant the best, and to still have a life, even with her conditions, was something she be glad of and cherish.

To actually be here, in the Great Hall, with it's floating candles that cast their light on the mass of students, divided by their houses was something different though. It was intimidating, terrifying even and the reminder that her father was not here, that no one was here to help her if she had an attack or something broke didn't help. And there was so many students, and she would be around them ever day, all the time. The thought of them discovering her secret, why she was so weak and wore out quickly, of why she was always clothed from head to toe was sickening. She couldn't stand another round of whispers and rumours, cruel glances and mocking words.

Turning her thoughts away from her fears Hotaru watched the line of first years slowly grow shorter, a teacher she did not yet know calling them up to put on they hat. The Sorting Hat, she recalled from her readings, a hat that would talk to you, muse over your qualities both good and bad and put you in a place that you would stay for seven years. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach as student after student stepped up.]

[It's the name that catches Ib's attention. Hotaru Tomoe, the girl from the journal! Immediately Ib ceased whatever she was doing to wave from her seat, hoping that Hotaru would notice her. Hotaru's nervousness was nearly identical to the jumble of feelings Ib had gone through during her own Sorting, and she wanted to make sure Hotaru knew that everything was going to be ok.]
