Gamzee liked riding the bus. The motion was soothing, and he could space out staring out the window, or peer into other people's cars as he went by, making up stories in his head about the people inside. He could listen to his headphones, and no one would tell him to, "Take them off this instant, my lad!" the way the old ladies at church did. Sure, he got funny looks for the make-up, but who cared? He was going to see his friend, and that was all that mattered. He got to break his self-imposed isolation from the people who kept him sane when he was home, and he'd be sleeping in the same room with another living, breathing person again. The fact that it was Shinra just made it even better - he'd been feeling so awful lately, and then with everything with Karkat ... well, he needed the weirdly unconditional positivism that Shinra exuded.
He almost missed his stop, but at the last minute remembered to scramble out of the bus at the Glasgow station, slinging his duffel bag over his shoulder and looking around, a ridiculously tall boy in black and purple and clown make-up. He stood out like a sore thumb, even though he wore Muggle clothes when he was outside of school.

[Shinra leans just a bit closer, peering at the resin-fogged baggie in question. Based on some of his previous conversations with Gamzee, he has some idea of what it might be, but just to be sure...]

[He pulls a little glass pipe from his pocket, then, showing it to Shinra.]

[He offers Gamzee a small smile in return before looking down at the pipe curiously.]
I suppose I should have guessed. This one doesn't cause hallucinations, does it?

[Long fingers reach into the bag, pulling out an oily bud to start packing the pipe with.] It's pretty nice, though.

So, it just alters your state of mind. [He takes a moment to consider this, before emitting a quiet laugh.] That's reassuring. I don't think I'd want to hallucinate again.

[He holds out the pipe, and taps the small hole in the side.] You out your motherfucking frond stem here. [He seals the hole with his thumb, and then pulls out his lighter.] Then you be burning the green like this. [He flicks the lighter, turns it upside down, and runs the flame over the bud, which begins to burn.]
Put it to your word hole, let your frond go, and sucking down that sweet sticky shit.
[He demonstrates, putting the pipe to his mouth, releasing his thumb, and taking in a long breath with his lips sealed over the end of the pipe. He moves the flame lazily over the bud, and it lights up as he sucks air through it. Then he turns off the lighter, pulls the pipe away, and holds the smoke in his lungs for one, two three, four seconds. He finally releases it in languid curls from between half parted lips. It's a curiously sensual sort of action, his expression relaxed and almost blissful.]

Having made up his mind, he looks back over at Gamzee with a smile.]
Alright. This does seem like the sort of thing you would have to experience yourself in order to understand it.

[He nods contemplatively, taking a moment to replay Gamzee's demonstration in his mind before placing his thumb over the hole at the side of the pipe as instructed. That was simple enough. He's about to progress to the next step when it occurs to him that he's definitely missing something important. He then turns slightly, apologetically smiling at Gamzee. ]

Appologies if my weed smoking descriptions are innacurate
[He nods appreciatively before turning back to continue what he'd been doing. It takes him a little while to figure out how the lighter actually works, but once he's mastered it -sort of- he seals off the hole at the side of the pipe once again and carefully moves to run the flame over the bud. He then raises the pipe to his mouth, releases his thumb and slowly inhales the smoke. He attempts to hold his breath as demonstrated, but instead finds himself doubling over and coughing violently as the acrid smoke causes an unpleasant burning sensation in his throat. ]
