Yay camp!

WHAT: First two days of camp! Time to get settled in and explore what's around.
STATUS: ONGOING

The camp isn't too different from any other camp. Cabins where people will stay, a space for a bonfire, a nearby lake for everyone to swim in, and of course, a thick morning mist all around the camp, because it's pretty early in the morning.

Still! There's stuff to do already. Those beds won't assign themselves, nor will those bags unpack themselves. Like it's just been said, there's no marked beds, so it's up to each and every one of you to work out the sleeping arrangements yourselves.

But once you're done, you're free to roam around, take a swim, climb a tree, explore the woods, and other assorted camp activities you do when you have free time.

[She managed to find a bunk towards the back, claiming the top before Amelia swooped in and stole it. If Amelia was even going to bunk with her. A book lies open across her pillow and she's laying on her stomach with her chin in her hands and her feet propped on the back rail of the bed. For once it's not a proper textbook, but a guide to Quidditch. Someone plans to try out for the team next year. Any free time she can't spend on homework or on a proper broom is going to be spent with her nose in this book.

Of course camp is a hectic place and she glances up every once in a while. You never know what might get tossed around in this sea of firsties and up.]

[Van is in a top bunk not too far away, in pretty much exactly the same position. He looks up and happens to catch her eye. Have a wave, Maddie? Book-readers at camp unite!]

[She leans her chin on one hand to wave back, laughing softly as she sees his book as well]

They probably think we're crazy.

Oh, they certainly do. I fully plan to go outside and get muddy and fall down and look like an ass later, but this homework does need to get done. I think the problem is that most of them don't quite have their priorities in the right order.

[She laughs, shaking her head] I did most of mine on the train back to Nice, and the rest before I went to Italy. Working on quidditch now myself. [She holds up the book] I'll have to be good before I even get to Hogwarts if I want to play and study for OWLS.

[Oh godddddd OWLS, that's right. Van works hard and studies his ass off normally, but this year is going to be overdrive and he knows it. You don't really need any OWLS to work in a coffee shop, but getting good scores is a matter of pride.]

What position do you plan to try for?

I'm trying out for Beater. [Says the petite girl, smiling a bit shyly. Don't underestimate the tiny AU version of Canada.] I'm a pretty good flier. Better than some I've seen on the field.

[Amelia had been dawdling, checking out the scenery and mingling, so it figured, by the time she got to the cabin, Maddie had already stolen the top bunk. She put her foot on the bottom frame and stepped up, bringing her face level with Maddie's to pout at her more effectively.]

Aww, man!

[Her grin is a little wicked and she props her hand on her chin]

First come, first serve. Should have dropped your things on a bunk before you wandered the entire camp.

Well don't expect to come crying to me when you get lost, then.

It's a camp, it's not like the Forbidden Forest.

How do you know I didn't find a super cool and awesome place off the beaten path somewhere?

You would have rushed back in already.

No way! I was having too much fun exploring!

And now I have the top bunk. Seems completely fair.

Quidditch book. [She holds up the cover and grins] I'm trying out next year.

Really? What position?

[gloriousandfree]

Oh, probably Beater.

[ladyliberty]

Sweet! We should totally practice together!

I guess we could. It could be fun.

What do you mean, 'I guess?' YOu wana make the team, right? We're doing this!

Fine. I'm going to win. [grins]

[Georgia doesn't know Maddie that well, other than the fact that she's in her year, but whaaaat is she doing reading?]

You DO know we are at a camp, right?

Oh yes. [She flips a page and looks up] The bunks and woods were fairly obvious.
