WHAT: First two days of camp! Time to get settled in and explore what's around.
STATUS: ONGOING

The camp isn't too different from any other camp. Cabins where people will stay, a space for a bonfire, a nearby lake for everyone to swim in, and of course, a thick morning mist all around the camp, because it's pretty early in the morning.

Still! There's stuff to do already. Those beds won't assign themselves, nor will those bags unpack themselves. Like it's just been said, there's no marked beds, so it's up to each and every one of you to work out the sleeping arrangements yourselves.

But once you're done, you're free to roam around, take a swim, climb a tree, explore the woods, and other assorted camp activities you do when you have free time.

[Van is really excited! He doesn't often go camping -- his job back home is to house-sit while the Jaegers and Heterodynes go off and have adventures in all the fun places. He's brought a neatly-packed bag with all the essentials, and has even gone so far as to leave his hair potions at home. He doesn't want to waste the whole experience doing his hair, and though he knows he'll probably regret it a few days into the week, he is determined to keep to it.

He selects a top bunk and starts setting up his things. Bunk poachers beware -- Maxim has called dibs on the bottom and will probably ferociously defend his claim.

Of course, now he's too excited to sleep, so he's going to get and early start on some of that summer homework.

[So he climbs off the bunk, and then grins up at Van, holding out his arms]

[Maxim, you cannot even begin to comprehend how much of a bad idea he thinks that is. But alright. He'll humor you.

YOU'D BETTER CATCH HIM, YOU ASS.]

[He absolutely catches him, and spins him around, and somewhere, someone is playing some soft rock love song, and it's a glorious, perfect moment. Like out of one of those cheesy, over the top romance movies. He couldn't have planned it better if he tried]

[No really. It's a good moment. No one is dropped at all, and Van ends up on his feet all nice and easy, with Maxim's arms wrapped around his midsection, still holding him tight.]

Zo. Stars?

[Oh. Okay, yes, Van will admit that was nice. Growing up in a mostly-muggle town and with muggle friends means he's even seen those cheesy, over the top romance movies, so he knows exactly how ridiculous what just happened was.]

Stars. Since you insist.

[It's too bad life doesn't come with slow motion effects, isn't it?]

[He pulls away without another word, taking Van by the hand, twining their fingers together, to lead him down to the lake. This is the second time he's made this trip today, but this time, he takes it nice and slow]

[You know, as much as Maxim annoys him and does stupid things, sometimes he pulls this sweet sort of thoughtfulness out of nowhere (probably his hat) and reminds Van why they're even still friends. Boyfriends? Awkward half-flirting something-or-others?

Whatever. He follows Maxim down to the lake, not contesting the hand-holding.]

[Life partners? Because he kind of can't imagine not having Van around to yell at him. That's why he does things like this when he can. Gotta keep his boy happy so he doesn't leave in a huff of frustration, after all.]

[And he does like enjoy it. As much fun as running wild is, there's something just... nice... about being alone with the other boy, not having to say anything. His presence is calming, even if it's not exactly noticeable.]

[It gets darker the farther away they get from camp, until only the moon lights their path. Of course, once they hit the lake, that hardly matters, since the trees fall away and the sky is open and bright with all the stars in the sky]

[Yeah. That's a good explanation. Maxim is his life partner just like Agatha is, though in a vastly different way, and Van can't imagine not having him around to yell at. It's a point of pride, that he's one of the very few people in the world that Maxim will listen to.]

Alright, I have to hand it to you. This is far prettier than what you can see from the roof of the coffee shop back home.

[He leans a little against Maxim, hand still entwined with the other boy's.]

[Smirking, mostly to himself, he squeezes Van's hand. Damn, he was good. He needed to find ways to get Van to say he was right more often.]

[Oh, and the leaning was nice too. Particularly because it meant he could lean over and nuzzle the sign of Van's head, and breathe in the smell of various hair products. Mmmm, Van smell. It was nice]

Iz best part about beink avay from Mechanicsburg. Seeink de stars like dis. Sort ov... puts tings in perspective, yah?

[Gamzee is staring at him from the bunk across the way, as though he's doing something ridiculously intriguing and exciting. Or maybe disturbing. It's hard to tell.]

[He's not really worried. He knows Gamzee. He knows Gamzee is kind of weird. This isn't enough to actually worry him.]
