[FINALLY! The dawn America day! Steve would soon arrive expecting nothing more than a sleepover. HOW WRONG HE WAS! Thor has set up a nice little shindig here and his parents were kind enough to leave the kids for some totally cool unsupervised party time.

The Odinson house is quite large and filled with quite a few curious wizarding quirks, so this time the halfbloods will be the ones getting culture shocked.]

[He staggers slightly, but quickly gets used to the othe boy leaning on him.]

Gamzee! I haven't seen you in ages! Have you been enjoying the break?

[mo_cara]

Sure! [Gamzee says quickly, but there's a tightness around his eyes. He hasn't at all, he hates breaks, they're so lonely. Eridan was supposed to have come to stay with him for awhile, but that hadn't worked out, nor had he seen Tavros, and there'd only been some brief interaction with Karkat, who was so busy with his family or something.]

What's been up in that busy-dizzy pan of yours?

I'm so glad to hear that!

[He smiles back, shrugging slightly. The break has been nice, even though it's been kind of quiet outside of Glasgow.]

Not all that much, really. I've done a lot of reading. And I did Professor Donoghue's assignment. Oh! I've also tried taking up taxidermy, but I'm not sure if I'm any good yet.

What have you been doing? Have you manage to replace your makeup? I would have offered to help, but I'm not sure where you'd find it in Glasgow.

You can get that shit in most costume shops. [Gamzee explains, but his features have that strained look again.] I got mine from Detroit, so I couldn't get that kind again, I had to do the regular greasepaint. [That make-up had meant a lot more to him that just something to paint his face, and he's still furious at Strider for taking it away.]

Is taxidermy when you be putting straw and sawdust and shit in dead animals?

Oh...

[His smile falters just a bit as he notices that Gamzee's been looking more than a little strained.]

I didn't know you've been to Detroit! What is it like? I can't say I really know much about Detroit. Or about America, now that I think on it.

And yes! It's basically a sort of re-constructive process.

Oh, I ain't never been. I guess I pretty much ain't never been anywhere. [shrugs] But I got it off this one motherfucker what lived there, and was down with the clown. He was all helping me out.

How come you're putting together them beasty corpses?

You haven't?

[Shinra quickly looks up, not even trying to hide his surprise. After all if anyone seemed well traveled, it was Gamzee. Well, in that case...]

Would you like to visit Glasgow? I'm sure my father wouldn't mind if you wanted to stay with us while you were there. And you'll be able to say that you've been somewhere! [And it would make Shinra's summer break much less lonely, but he's not going to mention that. He smiles at the question, shrugging slightly. ]

Taxidermy's essentially a reconstructive process, so i thought it would be good practice if I l'm going to be a healer. And it gives me something to do.

[Gamzee has actually been a lot of places. But it was all before he was five years old, and he doesn't remember much of that, nor does he talk much about his time with his mother. He gives the other boy a surprised look, though, at the invitation, and his dark eyes are wide as he stares at Shinra for a few moments, as though he's forgotten what else they were talking about.]

... okay. You sure your da wouldn't be all minding some weird kid all up in his crib?

[Shinra can sense that Gamzee's only really tentatively accepting his invitation, but he's going to beam at him anyway. A tentative acceptance is better than no acceptance at all!]

I don't think so! I'll ask him as soon as I get home, just to be sure, but he probably won't mind seeing that you're a friend!

[Oh, don't worry, Gamzee will accept! He's too lonely not to, and besides, he likes Shinra. It would be pretty cool to check out Glasgow, too! But he knows he doesn't always make the greatest impression on people's parents.] Okay ... that's cool, then. I mean, if you're cool with it.

[The taller boy offers his friend a shy smile, then holds his knuckles up to the Ravenclaw, clearly expecting some sort of reciprocal gesture.]
