WHERE: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; Broom cleaning is on the front lawn, but feel free to wander!
WHAT: Students and Teachers are cleaning brooms for the surrounding community in attempt to raise funds. Crazy hijinks ensue when the 4th wall is promptly broken.

[She lets him think he's being sneaky for a little while. He's not quite as good at this as his father but she's well aware how delicate the Strider ego is.

She also might be trying to swallow the lump in her throat and actually speak to him.]

A concealment charm would help if you're trying to be secretive.

[He squashes down the part of him that isn't entirely disappointed when he's caught, because that means that a part of him wanted to be spotted, which just is completely wildly inaccurate.

Still, he comes reluctantly out from his hiding place, arms crossed and shoulders tensed, not looking up at her.]

Who said I was trying to be secretive?

[She turns around to face him, eyes on his face and arms lightly folded across her chest. She hasn't seen him since March and before then only in photos since he and Strider left.

He hasn't grown an inch since then and for some reason that makes a smile twitch at the corner of her mouth.]

You weren't? My apologies, Dave. I just assumed from failed attempts at concealing yourself.

[He cringes a little when she says his name, because he's not used to hearing it but it's familiar all the same and that hurts in ways he can't begin to describe.

Before March, he couldn't remember having ever seen her before.]

Yeah, well, you don't want me anyway, so what does it matter to you?

[Her tiny smile fades.]

Your education matters to me whether you're living with me or not.

[She wanted to add 'because I'm your mother' but something tells her to to mention the m-word around him.]

[See how he's shifting his weight? Yeah, he's trying to close himself off even more. He glares up at her through his shades.]

Nope, haven't flunked out yet. Don't worry, the fruit of your loins isn't a total disgrace. And if I was, you could always just walk out of my li-- oh, wait.

[She unfolds her arms and moves her hands to her hips. Can't expect to make any progress with him if she doesn't stop cutting off her own body language.]

Strider tells me you've been excelling at Charms. [She's choosing to ignore that last comment.]

[His shoulders fall a little in surprise when she tells him that, and he's actually speechless for a couple of moments.]

Yeah, I'm not bad at it.

[amotherwilldo]

[Please, she knows more about her two children than they have any idea about.]

And flying and Defense Against the Dark Arts as well. I'm very impressed.

[She has copies of his grades tucked into an album at home.]
