WHAT: Students and Teachers are cleaning brooms for the surrounding community in attempt to raise funds. Crazy hijinks ensue when the 4th wall is promptly broken.

[Spirit read all about the charity broom maintenance in the school newsletter and decided that this was a golden opportunity to lend his daughter his undying paternal love and support!

He is currently watching the broom cleaning festivities from the bushes five feet away. Maka can't know he's here just yet. It's a surprise.]

[..............She'd recognize that hair anywhere.

It can't be.

Brb, aiming a withering glare at the bush.]

[For a moment, it looks like Maka is glaring at him.

But that can't be. He is so well camouflaged. It must be a co-incidence.

But just in case, he's going to throw a winning smile in her direction. From the bush.

[Oh goddammit it really is him.]

I can see you over there, idiot! I'm not blind!

[Alright, it wasn't a coincidence and his plans to surprise Maka aren't really working out. Time to improvise!

He springs to his feet -still half in the bushes- and beams at her, waving frantically.]

GOOD WORK, MAKA!

PAPA IS SO PROUD OF YOU!!

[Imagine that, color Maka unimpressed.]

I'm not even doing anything. Why did you have to come here?

[Spirit notices that Maka seems generally unimpressed, but that just makes him wave even more frantically!]

I came to watch you clean brooms for a noble cause!
And later I'll see if we can go into Hogsmeade together! Won't that be fun?

[Hey guess who also noticed that ginger-ass hair and was totally looking for an excuse to stop cleaning.

Stein's going to just walk straight into the foliage and hang out with his bro. Because that sounds like a lot more fun than any of the other options.]

There's probably an actual bench that you could sit on instead.

Shh... I'm waiting for the right moment to surprise-

[He trails off, blood slowly draining from his face as he realizes that he knows that voice.

After recovering from his initial moment of shock, he slowly turns to throw a look of abject horror in Stein's direction. He'd completely forgotten that he taught here. And now he has him cornered in the bushes where nobody will find them.]

Oh Spirit, you don't look so good; your face is all pale. [He smiles slowly, sadistically, completely negating the effect of that nice, concerned friend tone that his voice has taken on.] Maybe we should get you out of the bushes and up to the Divination Tower so I can make sure you're not getting sick~

You'd hate to give Maka a cold while you're here trying to surprise her, after all. Not with exams coming up, certainly. [Look at how nice he's being. So nice. The nicest in fact. run spirit, run]

[Oh he sees that slow sadistic smile and he has no intention of going up to the Divination tower. In fact, he's going to scramble backwards and further into the bushes as a single tear of despair and terror makes its way down his cheek. He trembles slightly, pointing an accusatory finger in Stein's direction.]

I haven't forgotten what happened the last time I was up there...

[Really, that just encourages him, and he takes a few slow steps towards his friend, looking not unlike a cat trying to corner a mouse. A rather loud, currently crying mouse.]

Honestly Spirit, how many times do I need to apologize for that? I think I've forgotten what I'm actually apologizing for by now.

Besides, you know I've never lost a patient, ja? So you're perfectly safe either way.

[Don't mock Spirit's tears. They are both manly and justified under the circumstances. He stares up at Stein, almost transfixed with terror.]

You've never lost a patient, but did any come away from your... treatments unaltered?

[His eyes frantically dart around for a moment before he launches himself backwards in an attempt to hide in the foliage.]

[He snatches at Spirit's tie, hoping to keep him in one place. Though, really, with that bright red hair, it's not like Stein's too worried about losing sight of him, mediocre eyesight or no.]

You for one seem perfectly healthy.

[Spirit freezes momentarily, grimacing as Stein grabs at tie.]

Of course I seem healthy! The indescribable internal mutilations and the dire emotional trauma you caused unless is practically invisible to the untrained eye!

[With that, he jerks away, scrambling backwards and flailing wildly in a state of near panic.]

[Stein doesn't try to go after him this time. He knows he's really not helping the situation by making Spirit go into more of a panic.]

Spirit, seriously, calm down. If you have a full-fledged panic attack just think of how embarrassing that would be for Maka.

[He stills, catching his breath and taking a moment to process Stein's argument. He then furtively glances over towards Maka, hoping she didn't notice the altercation. Or the fact that a number of his limbs are now protruding from the bushes.]

You're right. I can't interrupt her philanthropy with a panic attack. That would be humiliating. I'll have to stay here until the coast is clear.

[He sighs, slowly and cautiously looking back up at Stein.]

[Hook, line, and sinker. Good to know he still remembered how to manipulate Spirit as well as he used to.]

Come, sit, tell me what you've been up to recently while we wait for the crowd to clear out.

[He tries to scoot backwards and away from Stein, but that proves to be difficult when you've practically embedded yourself in the foliage. He settles for shifting slightly and settling himself in as dignified and comfortable a position as possible.]

Nothing exceptional. I've just been working, for the most part.
It's been lonely with Maka away from home for so long.

[And he's just going to avert his eyes ever so slightly and avoid mentioning the other things he's been doing with his time.]

What have you been doing lately?

[With the way Spirit breaks eye contact, he doesn't even need to say anything; Stein can take a guess with what else he's been up to.]

Trying to learn how to like the subject I teach, mostly. I learned that the Romans used to cut open birds to read the future, though, and I've been enjoying getting to teach that, at least.

[Don't judge him, Stein. He gets lonely. Spirit cringes at the mention of bird dissection. His eyes frantically dart about for a moment before throwing an suspiciously inquisitive glance in Stein's direction?]

How are you meant to read the future from bird entrails?
And why do you teach divination if you don't like it? Can't you apply for a different course?

And no, unfortunately I can't: Originally, I applied for Defense Against the Dark Arts, but I think it was decided I'd end up being too rough on the students. Then I tried for Care of Magical Creatures, and I'm sure I can guess why I was denied for that. You probably remember how terrible I was in Transfiguration, especially compared to you, and nothing else really held my interest. At least Divination is something I have a talent in.

[He shrugs, shifting backwards as well as he can and maintaining his suspicious gaze.]
In any case, I guess you're right.You did always have a flair for divination, but there's not much point in teaching something you don't enjoy. You could probably find a job at the ministry if you wanted to.

[Constance, upon passing by, can't help feeling...odd. She turns, catching a tuft of red hair sticking out.]

What kind of pervert are you, hiding in the bushes to watch the students?

[He starts, looking up to find out just who was able to see past his camouflage. Upon taking in Constance in all her radiant glory, he throws a winning smile in her direction, although it falters rather quickly as her words sink in.]

[He flails, wildly gesturing towards where Maka is standing.]

This isn't what it looks like! She's my daughter!
