"-five inches on the global wizarding war along with reading the next few chapters in your books, due Friday. After that I swear it's the last homework I'll be assigning before the end of the term." Sal shot a wide smile at his students. A few chuckled, some cheered but the majority were just eager to gather their things and get to their next class as quickly as possible.

All save Dave Strider, who was usually one of the first one to leave if he didn't doze off during class. There was something odd about the way he lagged today, favoring one arm over the other. It wasn't sitting right with Sal.

"Mister Strider, would you mind staying after class for a spell?"

While the cut on Dave's arm had mostly been healed with a spell, Bro hadn't really been in the right state of mind to be able to fix it entirely, and then he'd had to leave to go get Dirk, because he'd left the kid waiting long enough. Dave had dealt with minor scratches and scrapes without magic before. He'd wrapped a bandage around his arm and stayed up all night painstakingly trying to repair the sleeve of his robe and scour his blood out of the fabric.

After the semi-feelings jam on top of the Astronomy Tower, Dave really, really didn't fault Bro for not making him go to the hospital wing, for leaving without magicking his robe fixed. At least he'd said goodbye.

But still, having his dominant arm skinned open was slowing Dave down a little. He wasn't sure whether to be glad or a little alarmed that none of his professors seemed to have noticed.

None, that was, until Professor Vantas. Dave winced behind his shades and finished sliding his books into his bag before turning to face him. "I've gotta get to my next class, Professor."

Dave sighed and tugged at his sleeve, glancing around the room as if there was a clock on one of the walls. He was a little nervous as he left his bag at his seat and slipped out from behind the table, walking hesitantly up the aisle between the tables and then leaning against one of the tables at the front of the room.

"Is this about that shit Bro said in the journals yesterday?" he asked. He knew Bro had gone overboard talking about the Vantases, and he was pretty sure that he hadn't bothered to apologize yet - although Dave knew that he felt pretty shitty about everything he'd said in the journals.

Dave shrugged at Professor Vantas' condolences. When he put his arms back on the table to lean on, Sal would notice that he wasn't putting as much weight on his dominant arm as he was the other one. "I didn't know him that well. The only time I really saw him was when he came over to drop Dirk off for a few hours." He scoffed. "Didn't even know Bro named me after him."
