The winds of change~~

WHAT: Canon selves event! A seance gone awry has had its effect on the school, bringing about mental and physical changes to students and staff alike! Full details of the combinations of effects can be found here.
STATUS: Ongoing! Use whichever style you like.

[Spring brings change, but that change isn't always a good thing! Whether your character has changed entirely into their canon self, or only in part, please keep in mind that whatever they know/learn of their original canon during this event will be unable to be clearly recalled - disappearing with their past self - when the event is over. This is to avoid fourth-walling after the conclusion of the event.

Please also keep in mind that some people will not want to fourth-wall during the event! Make sure it's alright with the other player before you decide to do that. Above all, though, have fun!]

[That expression on his face makes her pause for a moment, and she furrows her brow in confusion at the sign language. She had picked up on it pretty quickly back during therapy, and she and Kurloz had never had any difficulty communicating before but that went right over her head.]

Sorry, could you sign that again? I didn't catch it.

[It's strange - Kurloz never really interacted with the humans that visited the dream bubbles and had never learned English to communicate with them. He knew a few snatches from the others picking up the language - particularly Aranea and her long monologues.

As such, in this moment Kurloz has no idea what Meulin(?) has said, but he can see she doesn't understand him either. Hope that she's like him, trapped in a different body but with the same mind, he signs, slower this time:]

Meulin?

[She still doesn't understand and it makes her feel a bit self-conscious, and also guilty, reminding her that the only reason he ever has difficulty communicating is because of her. It shows on her face and an embarrassed flush rises to her cheek. She still hasn't gotten the fact that Kurloz can't understand her either so she reaches into her worn robes to pull out a pencil and flips to the first empty page of her sketchbook.]

I don't think I ever quite learned that. Do you think-- [And then she paused, looking around. Standing in the hall and talking, especially when Kurloz was still in his sleeping clothes was probably not the best idea. Which really brought about the question of why he was doing that to begin with.]

Lets go somewhere else to talk...do you want to change furst?

[Huh... so this Meulin clearly isn't his Meulin, seeing as how she can't understand him at all. The disappointment is clear on his face as he shakes his head dejectedly, running a hand through his tousled hair and sighing silently. Still, she might have what he needs, right? He moves his fingers together in a scissoring motion, wondering if she might have a pair of scissors or something for him to cut with.]

[Oh no. That was definitely not something she ever wanted to see. The motion is rather universal so she understands that but still feels a little pathetic that he must resort to such rudimentary means to get her to understand.

Still. It's a little weird for him to be asking for scissors. If there is something he wants to cut, wouldn't using some magic be a lot easier? Slowly Meulin is beginning to realize there is something else going on here.

She nods, indicating that he follow her.]

[He perks up when Meulin nods, smiling eagerly and following obediently. She might not be his Meulin, but she's similar enough that he's happy. Maybe this is some sort of fucked up dream bubble where this Meulin is a pink space monkey who never met him!]

[The more she thinks about it the more odd it seems. She leads him over to the entrance to the Hufflepuff common room and looks up and down the hall to make sure no one else is around. She pushes the barrels aside to reveal the entrance, and pulls out her wand, tapping them in the correct order and rhythm. The door swings open and she looks behind her at Kurloz.]

Wait here. [A pause. It wouldn't take her long to go in, get scissors, and come back out but that worry has only gnawed at her more.] I'll make sure it's still empty, okay?

[With that she ducks inside]

[Kurloz just blinks when the girl vanishes and stays where she left him, staring almost vacantly at the revealed doorway.]

[The common room was thankfully empty, so Meulin was quick to get to the girls dorm, fish out her scissors and return to Kurloz. She returned to the entrance and smiled at him, beckoning him in and holding out the scissors.]

Here you go, hopefully these will do the trick. You going to cut your hair or something? [She was still wondering what he needed to get done that he couldn't just use his magic to cut]

[He perks up when Meulin reappears and takes the scissors eagerly, eyes a bit too keen on examining how sharp the blades are. He stares at Meulin when she starts talking again, head tilting just a bit to the side as the words just fly over his head with incomprehension. He just smiles thankfully at her and tucks the scissors away in his pocket.]

[Meulin is really starting to think she ought to just take Kurloz to the hospital wing. He has to have been jinxed or cursed or given some sort of potion but you think he would have gone himself. Unless it wasn't just his language that had been effected? She walked to him, gently putting the back of her hand to his forehead. Felt fine, and while she knew a spell to check if there were any magical effects on a person, she'd never actually had the chance to cast it before and she'd rather not use Kurloz as her test subject.

She gently takes one of his arms and hooks it around hers, laying her other hand on it. She's realizing he might not be able to understand her at out, but she hopes her tone--however difficult it can be for her to moderate it--can communicate something.

When she speaks it's a little softer, a little quieter than usual and a little worried.]

How about we go to the Infirmary Wing, Kurloz? I think they can help you there.

[Kurloz just blinks curiously when Meulin presses her hand to his forehead, keeping still when she then links their arms together. She's clearly got an idea of where they should be going to, so he just nods mutely, blinking his wide eyes almost innocently.

Hey, she's tiny enough. If she tries anything suspicious he's pretty sure he can handle himself.]

[She's glad that he still seems willing to go along with her. She leads him back out of the common room, closing the hidden door behind her, and begins to make her way to the hospital wing. Kurloz gets treated to quite the sight since they are a fair ways off--long halls, moving paintings moving stairs.

As they make their way Meulin can't help but notice that some of the people they pass by seemed hurried--indeed only a couple of them pay any attention to Kurloz and Meulin, and even fewer seemed taken back by the fact he is in pajamas. Something is definitely up, but Kurloz is first priority.

Maybe she had been too hasty in giving him those scissors, but hopefully Mamma or Dolores could get this all fixed up. She pushed the door to the infirmary open.]

[Kurloz keeps his one hand in his pocket with the scissors, idly stroking along the blades as he follows Meulin obediently. His eyes dart around to stare at the other students and staff members, the moving paintings and stairways, all of these new sights and sounds intriguing to him. The hospital wing is almost painfully bright to him and he throws an arm up over his eyes in defense to stop his eyes from being burnt out by the sunlight.

No searing hot pain forthcoming, he lowers his arm and blinks in the brightly lit room, marvelling at how his now pink space-monkey eyes seem better accustomed to the light. Unfortunately for Meulin, both Mamma and Dolores are busy dealing with the swarms of students and staff members that are flooding the castle with their sudden identity crises.]

[The reaction did not go unnoticed and Meulin felt she had made the right choice in bringing him here. Even if Mamma and Dolores were busy, it was better to keep him somewhere where he could be watched over and kept safe.

She led him over to one of the empty beds and sat down, putting aside the sketchbook she had continued to tote around with her, determined to stay by his side until he got some proper supervision.]

How are you feeling? [She still spoke it out loud, and signed in hopes that even if she couldn't understand him, he might be able to still read hers. At the end she added the motion of lightly tapping his chest, then making an exaggerated shrugging motion]

[Staaaaaares down at her tapping his chest and then shrugging her shoulders, thinking a moment before slowly giving her a thumbs-up to indicate he's fine.

Ish.

He'll be better once he's had some private time with the scissors.]

[Sorry, buddy. You will likely not be getting any private time with those scissors because Meu isn't budging until someone else keeps watch over you. She smiles at him. For whatever reason they may not be able to 'speak' but communication will never fully be lost on them.

To pass some time she grabs her sketchbook and flips open to a blank page. She pulls out the pencil, lodged in the spiral of the sketchpad and quickly doodles a smiling chibi Kurloz.]

[He watches her doodle, raising his brows at the chibi. He points at it and gives her a curious look, wondering who it is.]

[The question is understood and she taps Kurloz's nose]

It's you, silly! [She looks back down at it, ahh. If he didn't recognize it was him she must not have done a good job.]

[BLINKING WITH SURPRISE as he rubs his nose! He glances at the picture again then points from it to himself.]

[She laughs. Kurloz you are being terribly adorable right now. She nods pointedly]

Yes you!

[Blinks again and stares down at the picture. Hmm... He gestures for her pencil, to see if she'll let him doodle a bit as well.]

[She is very happy to let him have the pencil and watches him, interested and excited]

[He smiles in thanks and turns to a new page, starting on a fairly simply but detailed enough self-portrait of how he sees himself - i.e. as a troll, horns, skull makeup, sewed shut lips and all. Eventually he finishes and returns the book to her, pointing to the picture then to himself to make it apparent that the troll on the page is how he sees himself.]

[She watches, quietly and patiently. The person he draws has enough familiar traits--the outline of his jaw, the wild hair, his eyes that Meulin can see that it's himself that Kurloz is drawing. She really wouldn't have thought much of the addition of horns, or the makeup (though the stitches might have perturbed her no matter what) if not for how insistent Kurloz seems.

She blinks at him when he points to himself and then looks back down at the drawing. She lightly traces the lines he has drawn, starting with the horns and moving down to his face. Her expression is one of complete curiosity and slight wonder till she gets to the stitches which cause her to frown and furrow her brow a bit.

She looks up at Kurloz and points to the picture, then at him again as if to confirm.]
