It had started out with Dirk just being in a good mood and talking to his uncle. He was rambling about anything and everything until he was out of breath. And he kept going. It was really nice, even if Bro was only able to get in bits here and there. In the midst of it all, it reminded him of how he used to talk with his dad when he was alive. How he'd ramble for ages about his day, about things he learnt and read or things he saw on the television. There was never a loss of things for him to talk about, unlike how things usually were now.

He missed that.

He missed his dad.

It was a constant thing, but now that it was on his mind, it hurt. But he didn't want that to ruin his mood. He wanted to keep talking. He wanted Bro to think things were starting to get better so he wouldn't worry all the time. But god, what he would give to not have to pretend.

And then suddenly, there was red in the corner of his eye. Dirk had never scrambled to his feet so quickly. His heart never pounded so hard. He never felt such utter disbelief terror all at once. Because he clearly just lost it. Because there was no way his dad was standing right there in that same red suit he wore on the last day he was alive.

"Daddy?"
