WHAT: Gamzee is throwing a birthday bash for his bro! Everyone is invited!

There was food. There was music. There were sparkly lights. There was booze. There was even a ridiculously oversized cake, though that had yet to be wheeled in. Gamzee had done everything he could to make sure the birthday party he was throwing for Tavros was well attended, and everyone knew the best way to get a hopping party was to let the Hufflepuffs know they were all invited. Which he had. And then, of course, he had to get the word out to absolutely everyone else he didn't think would be a bastard to his boy.

And then it was just a matter of getting permission to use one of the empty classrooms (he made sure to go through Iroh), setting everything up, waiting for people to come, throwing a blanket silence charm in the hall to disguise everything, and then dispatching Karkat to go get Tavros. When the Hufflepuff showed up, there would be a roomful of people waiting to yell surprise at him, a band with some sweet tunes, and a particularly tastyfine present Gamzee intended to give his bro later.

Because some shit was worth the wait.

"2D is motherfuckin' old school," Gamzee says approvingly, though his opinion wasn't asked, as he holds out yet another bottle to Stu. He blinks wide dark eyes at the older boy that seems, to him, to appear out of nowhere, and adds mildly, "I don't think it all supposed to be smelling."

"2D is good... It'll make people think." Shifting her brother yet again she rolls her eyes at Murdoc, half nodding over what Gamzee's saying.

"Exactly. Stinkfish is a horrible name. 2 to 1, it's not happening. 3 to 1 if you count Gamzee." Flicking her head slightly to make her fringe shift, Noodle gives Murdoc a challenging look, half daring him to push it.

"If you don't tell me your name then I have noooooo choice but to call you blondie.

Which I,for one, am perrrfectly okay with."

Red was next, to paint plump lips with a little cupid's bow, and then neat, perfect little circles, one on either cheek. "Damn, you gonna be so motherfuckin' pretty, my brother," Gamzee murmured, almost to himself, his smile wide and sly and he pulled out the mascara he'd nicked from one of the Slytherin girls, to make Equius's lashes even longer and more girly looking.

"My boy Tavros," Gamzee replies, nodding his head at the boy in the wheelchair at the other end of the room. "It be the day we celebrating what he came into this motherfuckin' world and made everything better."

Gamzee, for his part, is delighted by the appearance of the fairies. He knows Tavros will be over the moon about them, and that makes any trouble they make worth it in his book. Not that the Slytherin ever really worries much about trouble, or consequences, or ... anything.

He slouches up to Peter, grinning widely. "Daaaamn, motherfucker, but you know how to do it up right!" Oh, wait, Peter's a teacher - probably shouldn't be swearing, should he? Oops.

And then the lanky Slytherin showed up, a half empty beer bottle dangling from his fingers. He slung a casual arm around his best friend's shoulders, sighing with satisfaction.

"You think he's motherfuckin' liking it?"

He turned his head when he felt the arm over his shoulders, blinking a little at Gamzee before a giggle left his throat, just a small one though. He leaned back into the other boy, resting his head back against the crook of Gamzee's arm before letting his gaze go to Tavros.

"Pretty sure he's fucking liking it."

The Slytherin scrubbed his fingers happily through Karkat's hair, ruffling it then smoothing it back before leaning his cheek on top of the shorter boy's head. "Motherfucker deserves some good vibes, don't he?"

Gamzee was completely unaware of how intense and warm the fond look he shot the other boy across the room was, but he might not have cared, even if he'd known. They were friends, after all, and he'd made the decision to ignore his crush, and put it behind him, so it was okay for him to look at Tavros like that, right?

"What'd you get him?"

Karkat was completely unaware of the look as well, too busy off in his own little world thanks to the spiked punch making him a bit more oblivious than normal. He hiccuped before responding, hands finding the pocket of his pullover.

"Encyclopedia of magical creatures."

"Sweet choice," Gamzee said approvingly, and turned his head to kiss Karkat on the ear, grinning. "Glad you motherfuckers worked your shit out."

"I made up with Jade too." He didn't know if he'd told Gamzee that or not. "I don't think we'll be getting back together anytime soon though."

"Yeah?" Gamzee asked, and he was quiet for a moment before adding, his voice just a touch tenser, "She still be holding on to that Strider motherfucker?"

[selfhatred]

"They're not making out on my bed anymore at least." Karkat gave a small huff before his face became a little sulky. "Which is good. My back was getting sore from sleeping in the common room."

"Motherfuckers been getting it on on your bed?" Gamzee frowned sharply, as Jade just went down in his estimation by a few nothces. That kind of shit he expected from Dave, but on a brother's bed? Shit was just not done!

"It was probably some kind of fucked up idea of revenge for the sucker punch I gave him." He shrugged a little nonchalantly. It had bothered him at first but he'd grown used to ignoring it.

She was close to sending him into the table with a spell, but she held herself back for now and straightened her back.

"Vriska."

"Damn, but that shit be cold. I didn't know sister had it in her," Gamzee said, still frowning.

Peter grins, perfectly happy with things as he watches the fairies do their thing, and if he notices the swearing it doesn't bother him. "The birthday boy deserves no less than the very best! Don't you agree?"

He laughs, full of joy, looking on from afar. Admittedly he's a little awkward, not entirely sure of his place in Tavros's life yet.

"That is the straight up truth, my brother," Gamzee agrees readily, and the look he shoots Tavros across the room is so adoring as to be almost painful to look at, especially considering his feelings aren't returned. "That boy should be getting all the finest what there is in this motherfuckin' vale of tears and shit."

He glances back at Peter again, then nods. "Why I be glad he's finding himself a real-life bro."

That look gets Gamzee a long, considering glance. It strikes him as more than friendly, and makes him wonder for a moment what the holdup is. But this is a time for joy, not bringing up subjects he knows are sensitive for his little brother. "Here here! I'd drink to that. Or maybe not literally. I suppose I should play at being a responsible adult."

He snickers like it's some great joke and then continues. "And I'm glad he has someone so devoted by his side."

"Oh, motherfucker, you be all remindin' me!" Gamzee exclaims, suddenly realizing he's being remiss in his duties as host. "You want a lager or something? That ain't even like booze or nothing."

The other comment, though, he just shrugs and smiles faintly to, something maybe a little sad and more adult than really belongs on the face of a child his age. "He's my boy 'til the end. Long as he wants this dumb motherfucker for a friend and even after."

Peter laughs, shaking his head in amusement. "Being responsible is overrated. One shouldn't hurt."

But that look hurts a little to see, and causes his estimation of Gamzee to take a jump. He claps Gamzee on the shoulder encouragingly. "Thank you."

Those are the only words, but there's a wealth of meaning in the warm tone. Whether or not anybody but Peter could interpret, well, that might be another story.

"Ain't doing it for nobody but him," Gamzee says, and it's hard to tell if he understand what Peter means or not. But that sad look is quickly subsumed by the dopier smile that most people are used to seeing on him, the one that makes most people think he's an idiot stoner walking around without a thought in his head. "Hang on, motherfucker!"

He's gone less than half a minute, but he returns with a bottle of cheap beer, which he holds out for Peter.

"I know." So soft it might not even be heard. And Peter's glad for it. Knowing Tavros will always have someone to stand by him even when Peter can't or doesn't know what to do puts his heart at ease.

He takes the bottle with a nod and a grin, and then raises it in a little toast toward Gamzee before taking a swallow. "Cheers!"
