[It turns out that Galen's stunt had ended up causing himself as much trouble as it did Kid. When he dove out of the way, he'd slipped on some of the wreckage caused by their duel. When he regained his footing, Kid had recovered too, and when he turned to face him, Galen was hit right in the face by Kid's silencing charm.
He raised his wand to defend himself against Kid's next spell, but no words came out. In a spur of the moment decision, Galen attempted something that he didn't often try, and something he had just begun learning that year; Nonverbal magic. He barely had time to think the spell, and for all the good it did him, he might as well not have even bothered. The shield that flickered out was shattered by Kid's next spell.
Galen flew into the air with a gasp. Gripping his wand, he tried more magic. Aresto Momentum!.
Nothing happened, and Galen fell to the ground with a thud, landing on his back. He scrambled to stand up, and when he did, he pointed his wand at Kid in a flash. As much as nonverbal magic had failed him, he realized it was his only hope. And maybe if he could catch Kid off guard...]
Stupefy!
[He mouthed the spell, knowing full well that no sound would come out. Instead, he thought the words Petrificus Totalus in his head as hard as he could, hoping that for once his nonverbal spell would work.]
