School Year Starting Logs: Train + Feast/Sorting!

WHEN: The day of September 2nd for the train, and at night for the feast!
WHERE: Hogwarts Express/Platform 9 3/4 and The Great Hall
WHAT: Gotta get back to Hogwarts! Back to witches and wizards and magical feasts! Students and teachers are finally heading back to school on the Hogwarts express, and with the new school year means sorting for the first years!
STATUS: Ongoing!
NOTE: There is a thread for the Train back to Hogwarts, and the Feast, with a subthread for the Sorting! First years can comment to be sorted, and everyone else can greet their new house mates/students!

[Baljeet is happily settled in a cabin. Atop his head sits a thin rat, looking around with obvious curiosity. Baljeet, for his part, is switching between reading the book he's holding in one hand and working on the letter in his lap.]

[Nepeta got separated from her brother in the rush to get into and right now she is just looking for a compartment with room. The one Baljeet is in is the first she comes across so she gives him a small smile.]

Do you mind if I join you? [Fortunately Pounce was wandering around the train so they didn't need to worry about that rat becoming food]

[jeet]

Oh. [Someone he knows! It's nice to see a familiar face, though his smile is shy.] Hello, Nepeta. Your cat is not with you?

[moirailcompass]

[She gives a small shake of her head, entering the compartment and closing the door behind her]

Don't worry, Pounce is out wandering. [She hefts up her trunk to put it in the area above the seats with ease before turning back to him]

How has your summer been?

[jeet]

Ah, excellent. Nothing against your cat, of course! I just...

[He sets his things aside and takes the rat off his head, holding him up for Nepeta to see.]

You know how nature is. My summer was very nice, thank you. I got Nimh, here. And yours?

I understand. [She looked at the rat and very carefully ran a finger over the top of his head to pet him] Cutie!

[She sits down on the chair across from him] It was really nice! I love Hogwarts but it's always fun to take a break and be back home and spend time with family. [Technically she could do that anytime since her parents were teachers but she always felt like she had to act much more professional around them at Hogwarts]

We went to the Quidditch World Cup and stayed over at Bro's fur a while. Did you do anything in purrticular?

[jeet]

[An amused chuckle.] Thank you, on his behalf.

I very much agree.

That sounds fun! We watched a lot of the Olympics in my home... And one of my penpals visited!

Ooh! How was that? Where were they furom?

It was very fun and interesting! She is from America and was a bit scary at times, but mostly I enjoyed seeing her. She is just very serious about her ideas.

[She couldn't help but smile at that]

Scary how?

She is very cross when you question her thinking. Cross and sarcastic.

Sounds like some people I know. I take it you experienced this furst hand?

[jeet]

I did, yes. It was... An experience.

Heehee. [It was hard not to laugh a little bit.] I'm glad to see that you survived. Now lets just hope we can get through this school year, doubtless it's going to be one too.

Yes, it always is, isn't it?

[Sometimes Tavros gets restless on the train. It's hard to sit still when there's so much excitement he can't contain. Despite the events of the last few weeks, he's feeling a lot better and really looking forward to going back to school.

But instead of sitting still and waiting patiently for the train to arrive, he's walking around the train and talking to people on occasion. One such occasion being now, when he sees Baljeet.]

Uh... hey! Long time no see!

[jeet]

[Baljeet sets the book down and waves at Tavros.]

Hello, Tavros! It has been a while. How are you?

[bluhbluhhugestairs]

[Tavros makes his way over to the seat in front of Baljeet and sits down.]

Uh, pretty okay, I think, with all things considered. [Don't ask. Doooon't ask.]

What about you?

[jeet]

You only think?

My summer was quite entertaining.

[Shinra is wandering up and down the corridors when he spots Baljeet out of the corner of his eye. And Baljeet is reading a book! Knowing him, it's probably something really interesting, so Shinra's just going to peer into the compartment and say hello. ]

Hi Baljeet! What are you reading this time?

Hello, Shinra! I am reading Tolkien's The Two Towers. I do not always enjoy fantasy novels, but this is quite interesting.

I don't think I know that one, but I don't read much fiction, so I suppose that stands to reason.

What is it about?

[jeet]

It is a story of a grand quest with a number of magical beings. It is muggle literature and so not very accurate, but captivating.
