[In the morning, far too early for anyone to be so chipper, Dolores can be found in the hospital wing, getting ready for another week. She's humming to herself, some jaunty song from the 1960s.

She might even be dancing a little, if the twirling from one bed to the next while she nods her head along with the tune is anything to go by.]

[B.]

[Later in the day, the nurse is out in the school grounds, sitting in the courtyard with her face turned up to the cold March sunshine. She's not really dressed for the weather, in her usual dress with a scarf wrapped around her neck, but she doesn't feel the cold in any case.]

[C.]

[In the evening, after most students have departed from dinner and gone back to their own dorms, she's sitting in the spot at the staff table that's always left open for her but one she so rarely takes.

She hadn't been there while everyone else was eating - it's been maybe ten minutes since she entered the room - but she's sitting there now, contemplative, rolling a red apple across the wood of the table in front of her, from one hand to the other.]

Ah.. I can see how that would be a problem.

[And she sounds more than a little sympathetic to the poor girl's trouble.]

Is he a friend of yours, this boy?

Always! You cannot think even for a moment that my door is ever closed to you.

Fix? No, of course not. But perhaps in talking you might find a way that you may fix it.

Yes. That's part of why this is all so terrible. I don't want to tell him and lose him as a friend, but...

[She sighs, dropping her head to her chest.]

Every time I see him, the feelings are still there, and I avoid him entirely.

Open invitations can be dangerous. [He raises his hand and lets his fingers lightly walk down her spine.] I'm not so old as all that.

Well when he's not being a massive pain in the arse to deal with because something's upset him, pissed him off, or just confused him. Yeah.

[He huffs.]

Why? There's nothing to worry about with me. I'm perfectly fine and dandy.

Alright.. [It's not the first time she's had to deal with this kind of thing.] Tell me what it is that you like about him, and we can go from there.

You know that I trust you, as unwise as most people would claim that to be.

You're part of my family, of course I'm going to worry about you. Even if there's nothing to worry about.

[She pats the spot beside her to get him to sit down.]

[Feeling comfortably alone, Karkat comes over and sits next to her, closer than normal because, hey. It's cold as balls.]

Well then why are you out here and not really dressed for the weather? Are you thinking about something, or just being some kind of ice rose?

Um.

[She considers including all the he's really attractive and have you seen his dad I mean wow look at that body he clearly works out sort of things because all that is is awkward and probably goes without saying.]

Well, he was so nice to me when the potion was affecting him. Not-- not that he isn't normally, I mean, I know he's one of the first in line to protect me and take care of me if I ever needed it. And he can make me laugh and he likes my baking and...you know, all the stuff I'd want in a friend let alone. W-whatever else.

[She tugs some hair behind her ear.]

But during the event he...he really made me feel special. He was the one asking me out, despite. You know, his normal disinterest in my sex.

[And, probably, her in general. At least in that way.]

I don't know if there is a way to fix it, other than getting a time-turner.

[He sighs, and lets his shoulders slump a little.]

[She can't help but laugh. Ice rose? That's a new one.]

I was thinking, but mostly enjoying the sunshine. What brings you out here? Looking for me?

[Careful there Janey, Dirk's dad is like a son to Dolores and that kind of talk might get you a bit of an odd look. Not that she'd know the nurse is twenty-five years older than she appears.

I understand, sweetheart.. but I can tell you now that avoiding him will do nothing but hurt you both.

[Her expression turns sympathetic.]

What happened, dear..

I believe they would think it unwise for entirely the wrong reasons. I have no intention of hurting you. [little smirk]

If I was looking for you I would have gone to your room, or the infirmary.

I was just getting air, and quiet.

[She sighs.]

Yeah...yeah, I know that. I just want the feelings to go away or something.

I should hope not. [At least.. not unless she asks him to, right?] But it is entirely none of their business, my dearest.

Ah, dear me, and I have spoiled that, haven't I?

[She can't help but tease him a little.]

They will, but you will need to give it a little time and patience.

[He rolls his eyes at the teasing]

Yes. All you do is spoil every moment of my life.

[Even though he was being sarcastic, there was still truth in it when you look at the right definition of the word.]

[Well, and he does get a little carried away in bed sometimes.] I didn't intend to make it theirs. I'm merely pointing out that you may have a few sleepless nights ahead of you, if you're too kind to me and allow me in at all hours. [grins]

You are assuming that I sleep at night. [She sounds amused at that. Have you forgotten she's a vampire, darling?]

Someone needs to.

[Truth enough, and she's happy to play along. He's going to get a cuddle for that, though.]
