Dirk arrives to the meeting with Bro fresh out of a conversation with Dave- a conversation that's left him thinking about his father. Had it not been for Dave's description of the situation, he might have gotten angry with Bro all over again. Instead, he was thinking of the incident on the astronomy tower as an accident, and that doesn't drag up the hurt of being lied to.

So, when he joins Bro for the trip to the Three Broomsticks, he's thoughtful, but not angry. It doesn't look very different on him- he's got a Strider pokerface, after all, and his time away has only made it more impenetrable- but just like Dirk knows Dave well enough to figure out his mood, Bro probably can do the same for him.

"It was nice," he says when Bro asks, "being responsible for my own shit. I didn't realize how much you handled or the school handled until I was doing them for myself."
