[Something's definitely been going on today, but Dipper's been too invested in his homework and his own problems to notice it happening to other people. When he looks up at Mabel from his schoolwork, he looks exhausted and wary all at once, more so than usual. The shadow chuckled, leaning back in his chair and gesturing towards her but not looking at her.

See? This is exactly what I was talking about. Lost without you. When has she ever done her homework on her own? I'm surprised she hasn't gotten into trouble lately since she always needs you to bail her out of it. Man, if you weren't such an attention whore she wouldn't be getting any of your time.

Dipper cringed in reflex before he gave small, nervous laugh.]

I-it's nothing. Nothing at all. What homework?

[You'd better believe she heard that, about to lift up the book on the table to show him what she was having a bit of trouble on, when she just flat out thinned her eyes in disbelief. What was that and why was it saying that?]

What? I do do my homework on my own! [She points her finger in the shadow's direction, shaking her head.] And I haven't been getting in trouble lately because I've been busy with all of the clubs I'm in and the goats!

[She looks back at the real Dipper, shaking her head again.] Dipper, what the heck is with this cranky shadow??

I don't know! I don't know where it came from.

[And really, that was the scary part to him. Not knowing something. The shadow stretches a little in his chair, crossing his arms behind his head. I mean relying on her to make you feel better about yourself because of how lame you are when you're both at the bottom of the food chain. Really, Dip?

Oh boy. Dipper placed his hand to his face and ran his fingers through his hair, biting his bottom lip.]

[Again, she stops as she's opening her mouth to listen to the shadow. The shadow had been lying again and again and was really mean in general, but what he said actually did give her a bit of insight and made her question it.]

... Do you really feel that way?

[Dipper's face took on another look and he turned his head away, rubbing at his arm as the shadow laughed. It was true he felt as though Mabel's silliness let him better show what he was capable of, but that didn't make it okay to feel that way. She was his sister, yet sometimes he felt like the older twin. He cringed a little, closing his eyes as he responded in a quiet voice.]
