[John frowned. Well, he hadn't been expecting that answer. And it was certainly unusual. Yes, he'd felt a bit strange since the memorial and his mood was feeling progressively worse, but he'd written it off as being deeply affected by the display. It hit close to home. But he certainly hadn't seen any shadows.]

Sherlock, I don't see a shadow chasing you or anything like that. Do you have a fever?

[His sister had always joked that he ought to be a doctor, and he had to admit the instinct was strong sometimes. He held up the back of his left hand, which was absolutely still.]

Bend down a bit, let me check.

[Sherlock grabbed John's wrist instead and held his arm down from his face.]

I'm not ill. It's true. Greg could see it. So could Peter. They've been the only ones thus far but Greg admitted to seeing others in a similar state as myself--even a few other specters. They're us but they're... antagonistic. I haven't seen anyone else's but I have picked up on similar signs. Those affected walk fast, heads down, and look decidedly paranoid. Certain signs of depression are rather prevalent as well. Something is attacking us at our weakest points and I need to know what and how.

[Tucking his cane under his arm, John rubbed at his wrist where Sherlock had grabbed it. It'd been a tight grip.]

Okay, okay. Calm down. I believe you.

[He thought he heard a whisper, too quiet to make out, that sounded strangely like his own voice. But it was nothing. Had to be. He shook it off. Little did he know that by the next morning, he'd have every reason to believe Sherlock completely.]

So, what are you going to do about this... spectre thing? Is it bothering you now?
3potionproblem: (is that so)

Always. It talks more than I do.

[He rakes a hand through his curls. At least John couldn't hear it. There was less worry involved when he was the only audience for his shade.]

He's sort of an amazing fellow, isn't he? John. You've seen the anger and the pain still bubbling away just bellow the surface. Look at him now. It's still there but no amount of pain has made him blind to even the minor suffering of others. He could get destroyed in the drama and conflict you surround yourself in. Best to keep your distance. For his sake.

I'll go see Professor Donoghue. Perhaps he knows something.

Well. That's impressive.

[... yeah, maybe this wasn't the place to try to diffuse the situation with humor. He cleared his throat a bit awkwardly and set his cane back against the ground, leaning his weight against it.]

That's probably a good idea. I hope he can help you. Do you, er, need a hand with anything about that?
3potionproblem: (Uh huh)

No. On my own.

[Sherlock stepped away from John and headed back on his way.

Perhaps his shadow and he could agree on something after all.]
